I think after 14 weeks of healthy eating and lots of exercise i deserve a treat , a bounty ? a lion bar ? a reeses nut bar? a galaxy caramel ? does everyone stay healthy or do you have a sneaky treat? Once a blue moon wont hurt it ?
Whats your go to treat ?: I think after... - British Heart Fou...
Whats your go to treat ?
Always a payday treat nowadays, last week a 14oz Ribeye Steak with a large glass of red, last month an Indian takeaway Chicken Madras, rice and a chilli naan with couple of beers.
Wow and heres me thinking a choc bar might be bad ,though i do get paid monthly so might follow you and have a payday treat
A healthy treat for me is: slice of seeded sourdough bread toasted, topped with peanut butter and add half a dozen raspberries crushed with a little maple syrup and a dusting of chia seeds. Your gut will thank you and your taste buds will go wild! 🙏
Cake!! 🎂I have a stoggy cake around once a month. Mind you what I have found is that I find it disappointing after I have eaten it. Have a treat mate - you deserve it!!
good idea making something a pay date treat just to keep things in check,
I got a bounty mate had it with my cup of ovaltine was amazing 😋 , i have a piece a cake every couple of days i make my own ,very healthy but nice got it of heart UK site heartuk.org.uk/tasty-recipe... Also have flap jacks with out butter 😁
Yes i think the 25th of each month can be treat day mind you nowadays a cheese and pickle butty is a treat .
You can get bags of choc bars such as a Bounty in mini form and wrapped. I find that having the taste of just one-with the ritual of unwrapping it-is a good substitute for the bigger version
A sneaky treat 😜. We're only human. Enjoy 😊👍🍫🍩
The occasional ice cream for me but I’m very good at sticking to the healthy eating now and won’t go back. I no longer eat meat at all now.
Oh i miss ice cream i use to demolish a full tub of ben & jerrys watching a film ,im very good now at the healthy eating only eat chicken breast and fish now , i did find a recipe for ice cream out of just bannanas may just try it
bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/qui... you go rosie thats healthy 😁
I did have a pork pie the other day, the first one in over a year. It was fabulous.
I dont like them , the jelly put me off as a kid ,now a scotch egg on the other hand
I used to make my own scotch eggs and I love a pork pie, with lashings of mustard, but since my HA have overhauled my diet. No longer drink, alcohol free beer aside, no sausage, bacon, ham or processed meat. Plenty of fish, veg, fruit, chicken and grains/pulses. Have allowed the odd biscuit and cake back in and we will have lamb or beef on occasion. For some reason I've gone off eggs and only eat cheese, which I love, rarely. We usually have an Ice Cream at weekends.
Yes ive turned my diet around ,before it would be 2 chicken chargrills wedges in the oven loads of sauce , i now do everything from scratch even my own chilli or pasta sauces as supermarkets ones have to much crap , i dont eat red meat now , only use quorn as mince , fish and chicken or turkey breast ,hardly have cheese, only normally milk in a cuppa ,use almond for breakfast ,its amazing how it taste better and makes you feel better to
Hello
I have felt so guilty if I have had a treat and I know I should not
The one thing I would really like is a KFC but I am to afraid to have one silly maybe to feel this way but if I could let myself have a treat now and again it would be a KFC
Glad you enjoyed your treat x
You should treat yourself one wont hurt you if your good the other 29 days ,a bucket for one with corn on the cob and gravy would go down lovely 😁
Ice cream.
I started off with all the healthy eating etc but wasn't enjoying it at all even after several months to get used to it, with the exception of not smoking I am pretty much back to 'normal ' .The way I see it is whatever will be will be but I do watch saturated fat content closely and have cut out a lot of sugary things although I do have one or two pieces of Toblerone most days
Had a KFC last night 😁
Yes i get what your saying ,but i was very unhealthy before , just would eat all the processed crap or takeaways ,cakes and sweets , i do watch my sat fat nowadays mainly keep it very low i dont have any sugary things now just what is in things natural like fruit , and smoking i dont miss it now .oooh a KFC now you are talking i use to have one a week before
Same here eat most anything within reason, no smoking and a few beers at weekends. Keep very fit for my age and watch weight to keep it acceptable. The way I look at it is it took 70 years for my arteries to need a stent so like you what will be will be. There is also the family history which I can do nothing about anyway. Not expecting to live another 70years but can not see the benefit of some amazonian plant based diet for the rest of it?? life is very short and we are here for a good time! not a long time.
Yes, l have what l call a “binge” every so often. I think it does me good mentally and lifts the spirits. Life is hard, so enjoy. 🍔🍕🎂🍡🍦🥮🫘🍾🍧
This is something I’m not really doing. I’m afraid of eating foods that may contribute to another heart attack in the future. I’m not afraid of dying anymore , just don’t want the hassle , rigmarole of the recovery and impact on my family. I was very fit and followed a pretty good nutrition plan , weight trained and very active daily by walking and working (sweating) around our farm. If there is a family gathering I might have 2-3 crisps🤦🏼🤣 and a bite of a sausage for example.
I’ve practically licked booze , I might have a sip of red wine. Only had 2 pints of beer , it doesn’t do anything for me , I loved beer and ciders , loved Guinness but now trying Guinness zero. I make my own bread and I consider having peanut butter daily a treat even though it’s pure . I make my own meals and am just about to work with a coach on a fitness program. I’m sure I’ll learn to relax my outlook towards Christmas. Even my consultant said go and have a nice steak , treat yourself , you’ve got new pipes , no damage to your heart , you’ll make a full recovery 👍👊.
I hope you gain some confidence and enjoy your Christmas treats. You will never go back to what you used to eat but enjoying a few treats should not harm you.
My neighbour had the same as yourself, it took two years to recover, he ate very healthy after his ops but enjoyed his apple pies and scones/ jam lived a full life until a few months ago and died at 96 years young .
Guinness Zero is great! (Dubliner here) The trick is to get them to pour it, wait for it to settle, then top it up with real Guinness! Delicious. You wouldn't know the difference. I barely drink alcohol these days (single working parent... I can't do hangovers any more).
Guinness Zero is pretty good stuff and I've found a couple of alcohol free (or very low at 0.05%) real ales I quite like. Alcohol free wine is just rank though 🤢. I still have 2 bottles of single malt I bought the day before my HA 🙃. I was really good diet wise post HA but now allow myself a little more leeway. The rehab nurses did say from the outset that I was "allowed" takeaways, alcohol, meals out, cheese etc but in moderation but I find I don't really miss much of what I used to eat.
My go to treat is a scone with jam and clotted cream, a good cuppa and great company........ invariably my wife! What ever your pleasure, guilty or otherwise, don't avoid it completely. I was told by the rehab nurse and the Cardiologist that all foods were permitted post op although some needed greater moderation than others. When asked why? The answer was that if they try to prohibit certain foods then the temptation/guilt/ depression of failure becomes overwhelming and is more harmful than an odd treat now and then

Iv had a over active thyroid for about 3 months now it is supposed to be in the rang of 10-22 and mine was over 100 Iv lost about 1.5 stone just not fancied any food it was a side affect of taking amiodorone. But now it’s down to 45 and I’m fancing just normal food again
Hi, yellow731,
Like many others on this forum, I agree that it is probably okay to splurge and have a treat once in a blue moon.
As you know, a blue moon is simply a second full moon that occurs within yearly subdivisions of time.
Just be careful of months that may contain 2 blue moons. 😃. That might get tricky with the snacks.
Best wishes to you! ❤️
A treat helps me stick to healthy eating. Fish and chips, Chinese takeaway now and again tastes better now it's a treat
A slice of pizza, rich coleslaw and a jacket potato with loads of butter….that’s my treat, I could ‘healthy’ it up but it wouldn’t be the same so I keep it as a treat snd thoroughly enjoy it guilt free. Treat yourself! Take care 🦊x
I recently had a cardio ablation so I was reflecting on what helped me through open heart surgery age 15 many years ago. And I remembered how I had lots of visitors and everyone brought me lots of chocolates! So I decided to turn back the clocks and send my husband on a mission to find the best praline chocolates he could find. M&S Italian selection - delicious!!
Blimey, you guys are so good! I have a 2 finger kit kat at least 4 times a week! You do need some fat in your diet and really that's not gonna hurt!
I love the new mint flavoured chocolate oranges, but what starts as I'll have 2 segments a day ends up with the whole thing gone in 2 days so have to only buy once a month
🫢 A slice or two of bread lathered with butter and sprinkled with sugar and large amounts of cinnamon 😅 I have that maybe twice a year, feel terribly guilty but thoroughly savour it….it reminds me of doing it as a child
Full Scottish breakfast ye canny whack it 🤣 Square slice sausage, Ayrshire bacon, Stornoway black pudding (all grilled), fried egg and tottie scone the basics and you can always add mushrooms, tomato's and beans 😋I am getting hungry read everyone's treats char
Fortunately I don't have a sweet tooth so very rarely have sweets, biscuits or cake. Don't even have them in the house unless visitors are due and then they take the leftovers back with them! However I love Thai food but rarely have it. Most of it is quite light. In fact my family are taking me for a Thai meal next week for my 70th birthday. Mouth watering at the thought of it!!
I have a very sweet tooth ,but just discorved dates they sort my craving out, oh my mouth would be watering to , roll on payday so i can treat myself
Cheese and onion pie every time
Posh cafes keep giving me cakes near the end of the day for free.
It would be churlish to turn them down so I ate all of them the first time and put them in the freezer for a rainy day another.
Being off work as my recovery from having a stent inserted is very slow I have been cooking a lot of preserves. So my go to treat is a peanut butter and home made quince jelly sandwich. I'm just showing off, I know, but it keeps me happy.
A teaspoon (as loaded as physicallypossible) with millions sweets Yummy i eat the tiny little sugar bursts individually, one by one, that's my absolute guilty pleasure!
BUT
Only once in a blue moon, because when I do have a treat it starts a craving for more, so it's a pleasure pain scenario 🤣
You have to treat yourself tho,
especially when it's hard earned, not only is it encouraging to keep up the hhealthy lifestile changes but also life is too short not to surely?
Enjoy your treat Yellow
A couple of pieces of 70% or above dark chocolate. It doesn't trigger a binge like milk chocolate does for me and it's good for you mental health. I break it into tiny pieces and let them melt on my tongue... yum!
