Hi, I wasn't sure if this should be posted in a Diabetes forum or on here, after thinking about it I think that this BHF site is the better option.
So Peripheral Arterial Disease. I had both Iliac Arteries 'bored' out with balloon angioplasty in May of this year (Left leg fully occulted and Right leg was somehow back-filling the left with its own blockage as well), and whilst my mobility is much better the cramping in my Calf's is horrendous. My legs are jumpy in the evening, I use loads of 'Deep Heat' on them every evening and they are interfering with my sleep as my calf's keep cramping when I am in bed. Even putting a Tens device on them does not help much. I'm not able to take quinine as it makes my heart beat faster and with Angina that's not a good idea. So does anyone have any suggestions for stopping this cramping.
Thanks
Terry

Hi TerryI go through periods of muscle cramping usually in my upper torso and when I don't have them I can't recall what I was doing differently to stop them.
My friend who gets them in her lower leg says she puts it down to being cold which sounds like this may be the reason you use deep heat cream.
I would try speaking to your GP or pharmacist, although my GP prescribed quinine for mine which I didn't want to take as the cramping wasn't a permanent fixture.
I can only think for me since I started walking more and I don't mean miles, just walking for five to ten minutes indoors every hour or two has maybe helped me.
Hi sorry to hear about the cramp. I don't really have medical advice for you nut I do know that cramp can be caused by de dehydration. If you're not drinking much water then maybe significantly increase your intake!I had terrible cramp always at night in calf and thigh, caused by the statin I was on. GP changed the brand but made no difference so took me off statins and prescribed something similar. No cramp now!
