Statin and muscular pain

Hi all. Hope all okay and finding useful information on this forum. I am one year post double bypass and have started noticing aches in both legs, particularly at night whilst resting in bed, and a similar pain in my left forearm. It is becoming slightly concerning and I am wondering if Atorvastatin 40mg is the sole reason. I am also taking Bisoprolol 1.25mg, Ramapril 1.25mg, and Aspirin 150mg. Have never suffered high blood pressure nor cholesterol ( genetics and smoking) caused my issues. The left leg seems to be the worst. Any help/advice greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking time to read, Best wishes to all xx

You should probably call your doctor you may need some blood work done.

I am on bisoprolol 1.25 and perindopril and atorvastatin 40mg. No leg pains, some upper arm pains but bearable.

Also my cardiologist said if u get muscular pain from statins, take Q10 enzyme . It counteracts the effects

Do see if your GP thinks changing your statins might help. My legs are lots better since I’m on new statins, (she tried 3 different ones). Any pain in the left arm can be a worrying sign for a heart patient. Worth discussing that too with your GP. Hope it improves.

Thank you for your response. After speaking to others who are on statin I do think that I may need to change them.

I’m on Bisoprolol, Amlodipine, Losartan and Rosuvastatin.

I have been on the statins for many years and the other ones for 3 yrs since my heart attack. Like you I experience muscular pains in both legs and at night time too. Not had it in my arms though. I tried coming off the statins for six weeks but that didn’t help.

Recently blood tests showed I had low sodium levels and I was changed on to Losartan from Candesartan. The chemist says that sodium/potassium levels can affect muscles quite a lot.

I have arthritis so have problems with my knee, ankle and hip joints anyway and I find it quite hard to exercise.

I’d say that my pains have definitely increased since taking the heart meds.

Ask GP to look at your statin as muscle pain and spasms are a known side effect. My husband has terrible problems with them

Thank you for your response. Although I have been on the statin for just over a year the pains have not long started. I am hopeful of getting an appointment/ triage with my G.P. tomorrow. Think that the statin is the problem

Hi maxijazz1

Just come across your post

How are your muscle problems now?

I took a short 12 week course of 5mgs rosuvastatin in early 17 because I had a triple bypass

I stopped because of muscle aches

However, despite stopping them almost 3 years ago now

The aches have not stopped and are progressing!

I'd love to find an answer to these aches

I can honestly say that taking statins was THE bigggest mistake of my life

Good luck with your health!
