Hi ๐I'm 34 years old, recently had surgery to fit a device to fix a hole in my heart.
It was discovered due to arrhythmia.
I am now taking bisoprolol 1.25mg twice a day and an aspirin 75mg.
I am experiencing fatigue and leg pain. It can be quite bad. I don't know if it is because I'm back to work and on my feet all day or if it could be meds related?
Does anyone know if the beta blocker and the leg pain are relevant to each other?
Many thanks ๐

I had this procedure about 10 years ago as I had had an embolism and a small stroke which was thought to have been caused by the (from birth) hole in my heart. I was prescribed aspirin for 6 months and Warfarin(later changed to Apixaban) for stroke prevention. You should have had it explained to you why you were prescribed Bisoprolol.I take it for Atrial fribrilation and do not get any leg pains.I felt really well after the op. and full of energy.I was 72 at the time!
I take the same daily dose of Bisoprolol with a chaser of dispersible aspirin and a side of Statins and can't say that I've experienced sore muscle or other leg pain. I'm average build 59 y-o chap. As 10gingercats says I think it may be worthwhile finding out what the Bisoprolol is intended to help with in your case, as there are other BP meds that might be suitable. We are all different so I wouldn't stop taking anything without medical advice.
You don't say how recent is 'recent' but if one overdoes physical effort too soon after heart surgery your body will let you know......
As a side note, it is all too easy for those of us with heart conditions to attribute all sorts of symptoms to either the condition or the accompanying meds - i suspect very often incorrectly. I guess I'm saying , if your legs are hurting, see a doctor (easier said than done I know).
This is a well put together reply thanks so much!Yes you are right, the first thing I think about is my heart and my meds when in actual fact it could be a number of things.
Contacting a doctor is very sensible and I will have to take your advice ๐
We are all different, so what affects one person won't affect another. Having said that In my experience a beta blocker has not caused me to have any pain in the legs, but I did get somewhat fatigued when I was on a higher dose than I am now. Statins were the medication that caused me leg pains... I went through several until I was prescribed Rosuvastatin which is okay for me.
I must admit the fatigue is annoying, I used to have much more energy but I end up feeling very tired a couple of hours after taking them, with a dip in blood pressure.
On another health forum, I have been in conversation with two other persons suffering from leg pain whilst on and continued after ceasing taking bisoprolol. Myself am suffering from upper abdominal and chest pain, as well as tremors after taking and ceasing taking bisoprolol. I had none of these symptoms before taking the medication, being prescribed for hypertension. Bisoprolol can have serious side effects for some people. I recommend you see your doctor and request a change of medication.
