So here goes - at The Royal Brompton with one last night before my triple CABG tomorrow - being woken up @ 6am before being taken down to surgery.
Suddenly it’s all got a bit ‘real’ - oh well, what’s the worst that could happen………….

Had my quadruple on the 25th July, the surgeons were so blasé about it lol, it’s just considered “pipe work” these days .. I considered it a rebirth and I’m so grateful. Wishing you a speedy and comfortable recovery and here’s to the future 👍
all the the best my wife had the same op several years ago and had no problem before and after her op 👍🤞
All the best!!
I can feel the anticipation!

Good luck today with your CABG x
Hi now a Guinness World Record Holder longest surviving triple heart bypass patient. Now 77 had my op in 1977 so 46 years and counting. Until recently playing walking football until something muscular snapped.Hope to get back but at my age could take time. I don’t know your age but since my op have led a normal life.My advice is I hope you have good life insurance I am sure your op will be successful so not trying to worry you.Just I was 31 with a wife and two daughters with only £1,000 of life cover. So if something did go wrong depending on relatives to cover my stupid oversight. Sorted out after op with cover but at a loaded price.
Things have moved on since 1977 the op is common place I know that won’t console you to much but it is a confident fact.I hope and pray all goes well for you as it did for me.
Stay positive, they know what there doing. I came to the same conclusion "what's the worst that can happen".They wouldn't proceed it it has significant risk.
Get well soon
Best
I am 12 years post 4 x CABG all went well and I have never looked back. I am in hospital now waiting for an Aortic Vale replacement TAVI.
WISHING YOU ALL THE VERY BEST AND A GOOD RECOVERY ❤️🩹🤞🏽
Hi KaduFlyer, If you are reading this it will mean you have had your Bypass and having the best care from the team looking after you in your hospital. The pain killers are good and I hope you feel it was not as bad as you imagined it would be.
Remember, you have just had life saving surgery to help you to wake up each day and enjoy the beautiful people and things around you. I remember being told that having the surgery is like your body being hit by a bus and your body and mind will need many months to heal properly.
If you experience noises, ringing in the ears, it's normal and goes eventually. No lifting, just rest, heal and they will having you walking as soon as they can. Take it slowly and let the Surgical Staff know if you have any questions. They were fantastic with me so hoping the same for you.
When you are home, you can chat to us on here for reassurance.
xx
I hope all goes well for you and you make a speedy recovery.
Only got this today so I guess you're in ICU being pampered!!! When you're up to it, let us know how you're getting on. All the very best. Jan xxxx
👋 Hi Kadu, by now I guess you'll have arrived in HDI. So, you'll be reading all the responses to your post after your op. If my experience is anything to go by you can't really recall that much of the 1st day's following Bypass surgery. It wasn't until day two that I really came round the bend and I only wish that I had been aware of this forum prior to my operation. As there's so much knowledge and experience of post Bypass do's and don'ts available on this forum.
Like most of the big things in life until you've experienced them 1st hand, it's quite difficult to talk to other people who haven't. On this forum there are a lot of people who have gone through what you've just gone through and a lot of lived experience you can draw on when you need it
Anyway, it's now virtually 12mths since my operation and I've never felt better and truly I hope you find yourself in the same happy situation.
Best wishes for your future heart health,
Denis
As my surgeon said "It's just a bit of plumbing", that was AVR and 1xCABG.
Wishing you all the best for your surgery hope all goes well and a speedy recovery 😊X
