I had a CRT-D procedure test yesterday and all went well the cardiologist and nurses were amazing. I feel as though I can actually breathe normally now which is amazing. My question is how long does the wound take for the pain to ease off where you don’t have to take painkillers? Thank you, Joy

For me, it was about 3 days, but I hate taking any meds, so stopped as soon as I could. It was about a week before the pain totally subsided. Worth a few days discomfort though.

I'm glad your procedure went so well.

My device was placed under the muscle and it took me over 2 weeks to stop taking painkillers and go back to work. It hit me much harder than expected. The pamphlets and NHS website seem to play down the pain some people experience.

I found the app Headspace really helpful to get some sleep when I was in pain, using their pain meditation and sleep recordings.

I had quite a lot of pain in the first few days but it steadily got better every day and the worst was over after the first week. Full recovery took longer, especially getting my left shoulder mobility back. You may not feel like it but its very important to frequently keep some movement in your shoulders (particularly on the implant side) and upper body. So definitely do the exercises they should have given you. I was lucky to have a cardiac coach who got me back in the gym after 10 days (for very gentle exercise) even though I really didn't feel like it. But gentle movement / exercise and getting your heart rate elevated really helps with the healing and recovery. I wish you a speedy return to normality!

So glad to hear you had your procedure and came through it safely. Everyone is different so just follow the instructions given and take it easy for a while.
