I have relatively controlled Asthma. My Doctor has recently put me on beta blockers bisprolol at present taking 1 every other day for a month then every day. They tried a few years back but had to stop after 12 days bad side effects. Is there anyone on here that are Asmathic taking bisprolol if so are you ok. Been researching and says that there supposed to be ok for Asthmatics

Hello :-)

I have Asthma and take Bisoprolol and have a few years now and seem to be ok

My Consultant first put me on Bisoprolol knowing I had Asthma , my Surgeon insisted I stayed on them knowing I had Asthma so they must be safe :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Thankyou for that can I ask if you use the blue inhaler at all at times this is what I worry in case it contradicts the beta blocker

Hello :-)

I would imagine as they are aware we have Asthma they would not put us on a drug if it was not going to be safe

I am pleased you have been ok on it as I seem to be to :-) x

Hi I am asthmatic but I'm not on beta blockers because of my asthma so I'm on calcium channel blockers. Verapamil 40mg. Hope maybe you can switch to something that doesn't agrovate your asthma.

Hi Tinker

I have mild asthma that is normally only triggered if I exercise in cold weather. I was put on 1.25mg Bisoprolol approx 18 months ago. After a few months I noticed I was starting to need my blue inhaler at random times, as my lungs would just suddenly tighten up for no obvious reason. I was told it couldn’t be the Bisoprolol as it was only a tiny dose but things gradually got worse. In the end I insisted on trying a Calcium Channel Blocker instead, so am now on Verapamil 80mg bd. It’s taken about 6 weeks but finally my lungs have settled down again.

I think it would be worth having another chat with your doctor, particularly as you’ve tried them before and had to stop. I hope you’re able to find something that suits you.

All the best TC

when you came off the bisprolol was it hard as they can cause bad withdrawals. The calcium channel blocker did you get bad side effects when you started that one. I already take amlodapine

I have atrial fibrillation with a high heart rate if not controlled with meds. The medics did say I could stop Bisoprolol cold turkey and start CCB but I decided to taper it for a week first by cutting the tablets in half then quarters. Not advocating you should course, only saying what I decided to do. I did have a higher than usual heart rate for about two weeks during transition but ok after that. The lung spasm thing caused by the Bb took around 6 weeks to settle. On the subject of beta-blockers , I have heard some folk with sensitive lungs have found Nebivolol works much better for them. It’s a newer beta-blocker that doesn’t affect lungs, apparently. I did try it for a time but it didn’t control my heart rate enough unfortunately. Might be worth you looking into that one though, given that you’re already taking a CCB.

As for the Verapamil, I had headaches and skin flushing for about 10 days or so when first starting it but that’s settled now. It does slow things in the bowel department though, so I’ve had to up my prune intake to overcome that one!

Hi

If you have asthma then beta blocker should be taken with care - any signs of wheezing then you should contact GP

I was prescribed beta blockers and suffer from controlled atopic asthma- within 2 days noticed wheezing so was stopped and changed to ACE inhibitor to control BP
