Vitamin C and Omega 3

Hi can anyone advise me of whether rosehip C is better than ordinary vitamin C. I had a HA almost 3 years ago and read that these two supplements can help in health management. Thanks. I'm on aspirin rosuvastatin bisprolol and candestartan. One of these has made me put on 10 pounds in weight any suggestions.

I take 1000mg SR Vitamin C daily. SR indicates the slow release version that is absorbed better and cause less acidity problems (Vitamin C being ascorbic acid). My thinking behind this is that irritation of the arteries can cause cholesterol to be deposited as the body tries to repair itself. This is worse in the major pulsating arteries such as the coronary and femoral arteries. The benefits of Vitamin C have been known for centuries as lime juice was given to sailors to prevent scurvy hence the term Limey! There is no reliable data to suggest that the Vitamin C is better from one source than another although it is more concentrated in some fruits/vegetables. Rose hips or oranges your choice!

I do not take any Omega-3 supplements as I eat oily fish about three times a week so think my intake is adequate. With Vitamin C there are indications that much can be lost in storage/distribution/handling.

Hi I had a heart attack in October , and I also have gained a stone in weight , I have never had a weight problem before , and am actually eating less than before , the only tablet we have in common is Bisprolol so I am assuming that is the culprit , I am going to see my GP to try to get it changed as I have other side effects as well .

Thanks for your comment. I need to go to gp and change bisprolol. I may see my pharmacist first to see what alternatives there are.

Bisoprolo is well known to affect weight, having lost a stone and now plateau'd I will ask GP for an alternate next time I see him

I had Bisoprolol added to my meds immediately after my bypass. After losing what I gained as fluid retention due to an electrolyte imbalance my weight s steady - at 1kg less then pre-op. I suspect the issue is that it (like all beta blockers) slows the heart and can cause tiredness - as a result of which less calories are burned making calories in greater than calories out in some cases.

Thanks for your reply. I have become much more active since HA and post stent. I walk 3 miles most days I've taken up exercise class and tai chi class so I should have lost weight not gained. I also eat less and carefully.
