bisoprolol and anxiety

last August doctor put me on bisprolol 1.25 to lower heart rate and help with blood pressure. Since December I have been feeling anxious not sure why. I don’t relish the thought of having to come off them as I need them. Has anyone ever experienced this while on them May I ask

Thankyou. Yes I had a spell just prior to Christmas but it subsided so you get phases from time to time then

If your GP is saying that you no longer need the pills there must be a reason behind it. Being on a medication which is no longer necessary or effective is as harmful if not worse as not taking one you need.

Getting yourself anxious will not be helpful to either you or your blood pressure and won't make the situation resolve itself

Contact the GP and request a phone consultation where you can raise your concerns, however you should be prepared for the doctor to explain why you should come off.

hi when I first went on them I was anxiously and depressed I was in a terrible place. I had to go for counselling and on antidepressants which I’m still on that was about 8 years ago I’m still on bisoprolol 12.5 a day

My cardiologist told me they have many drugs that they can use for the same purposes as Bisoprolol. He said Bisoprolol suits many people but not everyone. I'm not a medic so I don't know the details but he switched me to Diltiazem and I felt better almost immediately. Talk to your medical team - there's more than one way to deal with your condition.

did you get bad withdrawals switching and did the diltiazem have side effects

No, no withdrawal but they tapered me off Bisoprolol (sorry - I don't recall what dose I was on). No side effects from Diltiazem apart from slightly swollen ankles.

Hi I am on 1.25mg bisoprolol but I think its probably the worry of heart condition that makes you anxious,I was told to just sit down and breathe slowly in through nose and out through mouth this helps me

I am on Bisoprolol 1.25 for exactly the same reasons as you and have similar feelings. I always felt tired, but the tiredness since starting is worse and I wake every morning tired and anxious and I have also gained weight despite there being no changes to my diet etc.

The Bisoprolol is doing its job and keeping my heart rate more stable without the tachycardic flareups and the ectopic beats are more muted, but I am sure that the Bisoprolol is adding to my tiredness and anxiety. I am doing the ZOE programme to see if fine tuning my diet can help, but no real difference yet.

Hi I am also on Bisoprolol 1.25mg since November 2023 but it is only recently I have started to feel extremely tired to the point i can have 9 hours sleep and then want to go back to bed after an hour or two! I have become very weepy and resting heart rate is usually around 56 - 57.

I have also put on weight and trying to get this weight off.

Hi I’ve been taking 5mg a day to lower my heart rate after surgery 3 months ago to remove a tumour from my heart. I’m so tired all the time & resting heart rate is still in the 90s! Spoke to doc who reduced it to 2.5mg & still feel like a zombie. Couple nights ago I accidentally took 2 5mg at bedtime & the next day I actually felt alive! Thinking maybe I need the higher dose so will speak to doc again. I do get dizzy when standing up quite often.
