I had AVR in February and am going abroad on holiday next week. I obtained travel insurance very easily via the usual online brokers. As there is no further treatment planned the cover was straightforward (as mentioned above) and I am covered for anything relating to this 'pre-existing condition'. I am 41 yo so don't know if that made things easier.
Hi HridhoyYou could also look at certain bank accounts that do travel insurance, It a monthly fee and you will pay extra for pre existing conditions, but it can be cheaper than most travel insurance companies.
one reply refers to packaged bank accounts. I’m with Nationwide BS. As soon as my AVR was completed without complications they reinstated my pre existing cover, but with a supplementary premium. I believe that supplement may reduce (or even be deleted) once I’ve gone 12 months without some of the usual heart drugs (inc anti coags), nor further cardiac interventions. I’m sure insurers’ policies differ, so probably worth shopping around, especially for travel to India etc
thank you very much for all your replies. One thing I noticed on one of the compare sites someone mentioned, that I have to declare anxiety or any other mental health problems. After my surgery: ectopic or pvc were causing me some mental distress or anxiety and I am actually seeing a cardiac psychologist tomorrow. But I do feel that as my recovery progressed my mental health has also improved and I am hoping I will be discharged from the clinic tomorrow.
How will this effect my travel insurance if, for instance, I don’t get discharged tomorrow.
I put anxiety/depression on mine and as long as you haven’t been sectioned then I don’t think it makes any difference. Good luck with your appointment tomorrow.
I have been looking at Insurance after a heart Block meant my Barclays bank travel insurance ( Provided by Aviva ) was pulled. Go Compare And Compare the Market gave me the best quotes. Specialist insurers were twice the price. Questions asked by insurers are identical and very inaccurate with their diagnosis but always answer truthfully or they will use it as a loophole if they can
hi. I travelled to India in March this year and I was covered by staysure. It was expensive but it gave me peace of mind. I had a mitral valve replacement last year. I suppose the good thing is that if you need any check ups in India it’s incredibly cheap to see a cardiologist (about 500 rupees or £5) at any of the private hospitals. Have a safe trip and a lovely holiday.
