This crops up regularly on here. My advice to anyone looking for travel insurance especially where they have pre-existing medical conditions is to do your own research. We are all different, age, what medical conditions we have, gender, where we are going and for how long etc. So just because someone on here gets a good deal with Avanti, Allclear or Staysure for example, doesn't mean everyone else will. And if you are awaiting investigations or tests some providers may decline which will make your choice restricted and others will charge you more. So find a comparison site for travel insurance with pre existing medical conditions and take it from there, or talk to your local insurance broker.
Quite a few people have complained that the age limit for Nationwide Aviva of 80 isn't obvious until you're well into the form. I had tried Staysure which didn't work, but All Clear is - according to the June 24 edition of Which? - second only to Insure and Go as a Best Buy. No doubt pre-existing conditions, and the fact that my trip was to Canada, pushed the price up.
and endorsing what Lowerfield says - the websites of Moneyhelper and of Moneysavingexpert give some good background to this.
Useful. Many thanks.
All i can say is as soon as you include USA the price rockets. I had a quote of 286 worldwide but with US 1250.
Staysure wouldn't insure me because I have a loop recorder fitted to monitor my heart, all clear have insured me and I have assurance from the co op that they are willing to insure me for my next holiday.
Should be fine if all you had was the Bypass and your just on the usual statins and aspirin like myself.
Didn't affect my car or holiday insurance
Get an annual policy it works out cheaper. Allclear has been okay with me but the premium quadrupleld when I shared my recent medical history
we use CSIS. £3k extra for cruise to Canada, two 80 year olds both with pms
I've used All Clear for the past couple of years which has been worldwide wide and cruising. Earlier this year we had a cruise in the far east, next year cruising in the Caribbean, and we've been to Vegas plus lots of places in Europe, so coverage is great.Just have to be sure to give them info about all your conditions.
Safe travels and have fun.

I have just used All clear for a 3wk trip to Australia, I was really surprised that it wasn't a ridiculous price. It cost 230 for the trip (I'm 49 with quadruple bypass a year ago). Its with Zurich insurance too which are one of the best travel insurers to be with.
The British Insurance Brokers' Association lists plenty of brokers who provide travel insurance for people with medical conditions. You'll find the list at biba.org.uk/find-insurance?....
I wish you luck with obtaining travel insurance. I recently renewed mine but at a cost which I shall not be doing again. Annual is cheaper and just a 2 week rate is not pro rata.
I`m sorry to say at 80 years old I shall not be travelling abroad again as the cost is not worth it.
plenty of good advice given above. Please do try Aviva and All Clear as mentioned. Thank god, I didn’t need to use the policy when abroad with Aviva but make sure that the policy delivers when called upon, as most reviews on websites are left by people who never had to call the policy cover into action, I’ll be very mindful of this.
Declare all that needs to be declared, double check your covered conditions and ask the insurer specific questions, scenario based. I would avoid brokerages with multiple stake holders involved in seeking assistance, when needed under the policy.
In my case All Clear & Aviva quoted, Aviva being reputable and would handle everything in-house not sure about All Clear. I went along with Aviva which was a tad bit more for the above reason.
If any member here has had to call in on the policy whilst travelling, it would be highly beneficial to hear about their experience and the outcome.
I wish you the very best and safe travels.
A few months ago I was quoted £2,500 for insurance by some firms and had to cancel my trip. I then realised my building society, Nationwide, offers free travel insurance (plus charges for particular conditions) via Aviva with their Flex Plus package; unfortunately I don't qualify as it's only valid for under 75s. However, Aviva do have a partnership with All Clear, who will insure people of any age and with most medical conditions; they've given me a year's worldwide insurance for £1500 - still an eye-watering sum, but insurance goes up hugely once you turn 80. The wonderful Martin Lewis of Money Saving Expert also recommends trying Avanti, CoverForYou, Saga and Staysure as they don't have an age limit.
I suggest you revisit the current Nationwide FlexPlus Worldwide Family Travel Insurance Policy booklet to confirm terms of eligibility. Its on P10. There is no age limit except an age cap on 'children'. My wife and I are 75 or over and as Flex Plus account holders we have recently taken out a policy upgrade to include pre-existing conditions.
Thanks, Lowerfield_no_more, but Nationwide referred me to Aviva, their insurance provider, who were very definite that I needed to go with All Clear because I'm over 80; so after hours of research and speaking to several people, I gave up and went with All Clear. I'd already found Staysure useless, and hadn't yet seen Martin Lewis's article, so didn't investigate the other three. My flight is in less than a week and with a lot to do beforehand, I couldn't afford any more time on it so paid through the nose....

I have annual worldwide travel insurance through my RBS bank account. I pay extra as I’m over 70, have pre existing medical conditions and travel for longer than 31 days at a time. Cruises are included but not for missed ports of call.
Last year I had a world wide travel insurance with Allclear. Had to submit a legitimate claim providing original documents....etc and they rejected it referring to "small print".
I since switched to Staysure as they have very clear policies.
The other company that gave a very good price was Insure and go, I was with them for years before my heart attack and they were the best. Having declared my medical condition their price was slightly more than Staysure so I chose the latter and saved few pounds.
I can definitely recommend Staysure.
