Hi All,

Posted previously about waiting for an ablation. Had my pre assessment for it and was kindly given a copy of my ECG done during it. If course now I'm sat googling to try understand it but not getting anywhere 🤣

Was hoping someone could help me understand it a bit please.

Hope it's ok to post about it. I have attached the image. Will add the additional info on it in comments.

Thankyou

Does he post on BHF? I’ve only seen his posts on AF forum and this isn’t a Kardia trace but a hospital 12 lead.

Hi Groott,Really wish I could shed some light on the subject but the best person to help would be your cardiologist or even your GP maybe sorry can't be of more help hope you can get some info to help to better understand your ecg as they are super confusing and just look like a bunch of squiggly lines to me. 😅😉

Marvel3000 profile image

Hi Marvel3000

Unfortunately, due to some recent changes on the forum, forum members are not allowed to interpret or provide advice/feedback on ECGs anymore. This is because it would be considered as giving medical advice.

Therefore, your next best option would be to take the ECG to your GP and have them interpret it for you, unless you can get a hold of your cardiologist.

Sorry we couldn’t be of more help.

All the best.

Tos

No no that's absolutely understanble. Thankyou for telling me. Would you like to delete the post?

Tos92 profile image
Tos92 in reply to Marvel3000

I’ve not given you any advice a part from consulting your GP or cardiologist which seems to be the standard response to most posts on here lately and does not breach forum guidelines. So I think it can stay where it is 🤣

Marvel3000 profile image
Marvel3000 in reply to Tos92

Ok thankyou 😂

Tos92 profile image
Tos92 in reply to Marvel3000

Someone might be brave enough to come and interpret it for you 😂

Tos92 profile image
Tos92

Oh dear. I wasn’t referring to you, or anyone in particular for that matter. But I will add, please don’t attempt to interpret it as I’m sure your next report might lead to a ban, and we can’t lose anymore members. So please behave as BeKind might’ve put it 🤣

Marvel3000 profile image
Marvel3000

Thankyou for not offering advise I definitely do not want anyone to get warnings etc or banned 🥺

I will be asking the Cardio's to explain it all on ablation day 👍

Very well worded to give the OP some reassurance, whilst ensuring the forum guidelines are not broken.

Hello,

I am frequently in hospital and have had numerous ECGs.

Whenever there is a problem, my ECG is reviewed by an appropriately trained healthcare professional who is accountable for their practice and knows my full medical history.

If there are any abnormalities, I am admitted. So far 16 admissions in just over 10 years.

Once I asked to go home and I was very firmly told no, by a lovely A&E Consultant.

I am always given a copy of my ECGs. I have quite a collection.

I am not sure that you would have been sent home if there were any concerns about your ECG results.

I hope your ablation goes well. My husband had one before Christmas and has had no more episodes of Atrial fibrillation since.

Thankyou Milkfairy 😊 really glad to read your husband's ablation has helped him so much. I'm hoping mine goes down the same way 🤞 this makes me very hopeful.

Yes I suspect the only thing the ecg probably shows is that I am in AF which there is a plan in place to deal with - the ablation.

Recently however I have been suffering from swelling/water retention. The cardiac nurse picked up on that also at the prr assessment and mentioned heart Failure. Now it's 2 people that have mentioned it my GP & this Cardiac nurse. It's abviously a conversation I need to have with my cardiologist after the ablation is done. Just a bit overwhelmed with all the symptoms at the min.

One step at a time I guess however I really thought things would be a bit more settled 9 months on from getting a pacemaker. Didn't expect this to be honest.

I agree our symptoms can be overwhelming especially when healthcare professionals ' think out loud' and mention an explanation for your symptoms without care.

I am glad to see MoyB has shared their experiences with you.

I was also going to suggest you ask your GP to send you for a NTproBNP blood test.

This blood test can be helpful in assessing how well your heart is working.

Hopefully you'll feel more settled after your ablation.

Had three Ablations in last three years. I think you leave to professionals to intemperate ECG have tried but it's a minefield Good luck hope you have yours soon.

Yes agree it's so hard to interpret. Thankyou I'm hoping it's sooner rather than later.

Hi Groott

I’m in persistent AF and my ecg shows lots of “bumpiness” between the QRS spikes, reflecting the fact that my atria are fibrillating or “quivering” rather than contracting as they normally would.

Good luck with your ablation. You’ll be able to compare your before and after ecgs!

All the best TC

Ps. If you repost to the AF Association forum you may find that you get an answer to your question. DrDave, as mentioned by Fairgo seems to be on that forum more than this one.

I had an ablation in July to treat PAF. Like you I had symptoms of possible HF ie swelling of my ankles and legs, breathlessness and general tiredness. A simple blood test ruled out HF.

Since the ablation, the leg swelling has gone and I've been able to reduce my diuretic with no ill effect. I have more energy. Breathlessness still occurs but I put that down to my chronic asthma and bronchiectasis.

This is just My story. Yours may be different but hope it helps to read another's experience.

Can't begin to understand the squiggly lines and am disappointed at the recent decision to stop people explaining them as I always found that interesting and helpful.

Good luck with your ablation. Hope you feel the benefit afterwards but remember that it can take time, as should be explained to you on the day.

Xx Moy

Thankyou for sharing that is so helpful. I'm really hoping it helps with those symptoms too especially the swelling. I do need to remind myself it take time 🙂

You may have better luck posting on AF forum as they don’t seem to ban that sort of help and there are quite a few doctors with specialist knowledge who do post, including Dr Dave who as Fairgo said, invented the Kardia. Is this a hospital 12 lead or 6 lead? The way you have posted the photo it shows leads 4,5 & 6 which show information of function on the left side of the heart. When it gets into the complexities of ECG interpretation I have yet to find a GP who can or will give an interpretation.

Suggest you ask your cardiologist - otherwise there are a lot on online teaching videos but I warn you the subtleties and the complexity for interpretation is not for the amateur!

What are you are you having ablation for?

Marvel3000 profile image
Marvel3000

Thankyou yes I think I'll re post on AF forum as suggested. Pretty sure it was 12 lead ECG as it was more than 6 positions.

I'm having the ablation for paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation.
