Hi. 35yr male.7 weeks ago I had my prolapsed Mitral valve repaired via open heart surgery. The repair was a success. Currently take 5mg bisoprolol and aspirin 75mg daily.
Today I had my 1st palpatation post operation. I use to get them alot pre-op but that's expected.
Today the palpatation was strong enough where I noticed it and it gave me a scare but I soon shook it off and the palpation stopped and I feel fine now.
Anyone got any advice for me? Is this normal to have a wobble 7 weeks after surgery.
Thanks.

Hi, glad your op went well, I had aortic valve replaced with mechanical valve end of February. I have had varying symptoms on and off, on speaking to surgeon and doctors the trauma of operation, anaesthetic etc will have had a profound affect on your body and will take some time to settle down. That said if you are worried contact your GP, hospital. It’s a whole new learning curve for all of us. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Great to hear that your surgery has been a success. My surgery was the end of December and aortic valve. I'm no expert and as Weemonkey1 says, if you're concerned talk to your GP. All I would say from my experience is that I've been a lot more aware of what my heart is doing since the surgery and at cardiac rehab they call this hypervigilance and describe it as normal. Good luck
I had a Triple Bypass and Mitral Valve Repair 4 years ago and I’m still getting the odd palpitations. I’ve now been diagnosed with Heart Failure so I’m struggling a bit but I just accept (reluctantly) that I’m stuck with it.
Hope you’re able to put up with the odd problem and go on and enjoy life as best you can.
Hi - Do you know if your pre-op palpitations were merely ectopic beats? If so, this seems to me a natural thing that might come occasionally and should not be worried about. In fact worry can increase them. Or was it something like atrial fibrillation that you had pre op? If you are concerned the irregular beat is something other than an ectopic beat, you could ask for a 24 hr ecg - or certainly discuss your concern with a doctor. Do you have a followup with your cardiologist any time soon?
And are you on any medications?
Also many of us with atrial fibrillation which I continue to have post mitral valve replacement (and I imagine it would help other irregular beats) take a magnesium supplement which is good for the heart. Check out Sanjay Gupta York Cardiolgist on youtube.
hi. I developed atrial flutter weeks after my mitral valve replacement. I saw a cardiac electrophysiologist who told me that electrical disturbances in the heart are common after mitral valve repairs/replacements because of the way the surgery is carried out and that it should resolve. It did and I’ve had no further palpitations or episodes of flutter. If you are worried then nobody could criticise you for speaking to your heart surgeon or cardiologist.
