Pacemaker self test ?

Yesterday I was having a daytime nap (I was tired out as my dog decided at 3am that she wanted to go out then I couldn’t get back to sleep for ages ) anyway I was woken up when I felt a thumping in my chest and I think it was my pacemaker running a self test as it felt the same as when I know my pm is doing a self check which is usually at night It happened three times in around 10 minutes and felt really painful . I’m used to the self test happening at 11pm which I’m aware of not but it’s not really painful, however I’ve never had this happen in the daytime and never three times in a row. Has anyone had this happen to them ?

Sounds like you need to get some professional medical advice on that as soon as possible. If it's different than usual and painful, it may quite possibly be something else, not the self check.

Dear you

No this has never happened to me, might be worth phoning your rhythm team and seeing if anything happened at that time.

Try not to worry to much and they should be able to give you that information,

Take care

hi westie I didn’t know they did a self test, never felt mine had it since about November. It has moved dropped down and goes under my armpit when I shower, hate it so close I feel I could pick it up, not bedded in my muscle like my husbands was!

I would call pacemaker clinic and explain what happened and see if they can do a download

Hey I have an ICD which can pace too. Mine does a self test type pacing at the same time every day which is around 10am. I mentioned this to my pacing team and they said it's its own check. So maybe ask them if you've never had it before. Pacing can be uncomfortable and sometimes painful. Do you have a home monitor at all? If so send a download xx

My PM self tests three times every day once every 8 hours. I certainly don't find it painful, it just feels like a series of pulsed beats followed by some clicking sensations. If I am resting it is VERY noticeable but often don't when I am active. I cannot understand why it would cause pain, maybe mention it to your EP at your next interrogation. Best wishes to you.
