Hello Just a query

My Ferratin levels are 83 and Serum Folate is 4.7 my Heart Nurse wants me to have an Iron Infusion on the 11th April. She has also phoned me and said I should phone and ask for a GP appointment to see what is causing the lower levels of Ferratin, Heart Nurse did say this could be coming from your Heart Failure !!! All the other Iron related stuff seems to be in range, Serum Iron level 18.3 Serum TIBC 67 range is 45-72. Iron binding capacity 49. The only other thing is Vitamin B12 257 the range is 197-771 so that's not to bad I think.

Just wondering has anyone else ben through this ?

Regards

ps I don't fret about my Heart related issues just interested if anyone else has had this query and the outcome !!

I was found to have low Ferratin and Folate during a routine blood test at the hospital. I was given an iron infurion which' restored my blood store'....so said doctor and i was able to stop iron tabs. and folic acid supplements .I would accept it if offered.

Hi ya, yes hubby has had a couple of iron infusions, it's well known that HF stops the gut from absorbing iron which is why iron tablets don't work either!

But it makes sense to ensure there are no other issues causing the iron deficiency so Kevin's GP arranged for colonoscopy & gastroscopy as a precaution & apart from discovering a mild case of diverticulitis all was good.

Hi Lesley thanks for the reply, I am following your reports on Kevin on the other site lol. Hope he gets home this week. The Blood results are the full trip Biochemistry, Haematology, My Glucose was 5.7 range 4.0 - 7.7 so that looks OK.lol

Best Regards

Ta muchly. Unfortunately he's not coming home today & tomorrow is looking unlikely as well! Good to hear your bloods are all good, I'm really sorry, with all that's been going on I forgot to check what's Kevin's were!! Anyway, have the iron infusion, it'll make you feel like a new man but remember, it's not acceptable to chase the nurses around the ward!!😂😂

I may be able to chase them around the ward just I wouldn't be any use if I caught them lol. You help Kevin get better tell him we all wish him well.

Best Regards

I've had problems with ferretin, folate & iron & can't tolerate the tablets ,last test my iron was 2.8 & doctor couldn't do anything about it . Then my hemoglobin was low so I had 2 iron infusions but took a long time to get to that point, I was told long term ppi use can also be the culprit

hi. I had low iron levels after ohs and had two iron infusions in September last year. My serum ferritin levels are now 660 so massively over what they should be. No idea why and doc can’t see me until the end of April. I wondered whether m body is struggling to use up the iron they gave me but who knows. X
