Ablation

I have recently had an ablation due to atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. I felt every part of the procedure even down to the balloon being inflated. Is this normal? The doctor wrote that I was showing signs of serious discomfort and was unable to do something called the 15 min wait time. I told him after the surgery that I had a lot of pain in my chest and he said it was because I was supposed to keep completing still but because of the pain I was feeling this was impossible.

That's not normal to have felt all that you did. I'm guessing you had sedation? I've had two ablations under sedation and each time a nurse sat watching me and every time I started coming around he would signal for more sedation. For my third ablation it was under a GA and I was totally unaware of anything.

I feel sorry for you, that must have been quite traumatic.

It was I'm having nightmares about it. It was GA but the surgeon said I wouldn't feel anything. I even felt the balloon being blown up.

All I can think is that perhaps you weren't given enough GA for your weight. Have you had a GA before? I couldn't have faced another ablation under sedation, my second one was 6hrs long. I felt the burns but nothing else. It's a feeling like having PTS afterwards isn't it. Hope you soon get over it. Whenever I'm offered any form of sedation or GA I always say I want lots and I mean that.

Yes had GA before when I had the camera in my heart and never felt a thing. It's not normal. Thank you for your help
