Hi everyone, been a good few weeks since Ralph came home. He's now got his new teeth and able to eat anything.
On Wednesday he had his ENT appointment and his new trachy fitted. They will be replaced every six weeks or so. Consultant gave the okay to have the RIG removed from his tummy, so waiting for a call to arrange a date they'll come to the house to do it. They also put the camera up his nose and down into his throat and his vocal cords are now open halfway. They didn't think they'd ever open again. Consultant said he was amazed that Ralph is walking, and eating and drinking.
He gave us a different inner tube for his trachy and a cap for it and said he's happy for Ralph to try capping it at home, building up the time gradually if he doesn't have any problems with it. Said not to do it while sleeping just yet. Said it will be up to Ralph if and when he wants the trachy out altogether. Just said if he got a bad cold he may struggle breathing because cords are only half open, but he could also be fine! Said he can ask anytime if it's in six weeks or six years. So after this weekend he's going to try capping for a minute or so. We're surprised they let him do it at home alone, but any doubt and he'll just take the cap off and other tube back in. May take a while to get used to it and build up tolerance.
Onwards and upwards ❤️❤️

I wo uld find that really scary doing your own trachy. I'd want a nurse there the first time . I hope he doesn't try to do it too quickly but when you consider what he's achieved since he was in hospital this is all incredible news. He's such a fighter but your support must never be underestimated. How are you doing? You've been just as amazing.
He won't do more than a minute to start, if that.I'm fine, relieved that things are going well. I've even made my dental appointment next week and retinopathy check in September, when he'll be home alone for about 5 hours, unless he fancies a trip out.x
This is just amazing Sue it really is and I am so happy for you both as a team you have got this far together and I have no doubt you will keep going and that trachy will eventually come out
Thank you for such a great update for those that are struggling and think there is no hope I hope they see your post and click on all the posts you have done as you both are prove never give up
We can hardly believe it, but Ralph never gives up. He's now walking around the cul de sac 3 times without stopping, so he had no trouble in the hospital corridors.x😊
I'm so glad to read your update! I've been feeling very low myself, have just had my mum's first anniversary. I can't believe it's a year since she passed, and I miss her so much.I enjoy hearing your updates on dear Ralph's progress and how you are getting on, it lifts my spirits. Your love and care for each other is truly wonderful and I'm very happy for both of you 💗
Hi sue, thank you for taking the time to update us all.I'm so pleased he is continuing to improve and exceed the Dr's expectations it's been a long journey but you have both worked so hard to get where you are .remember to look after yourself xxx

Well done to the both of you. It’s amazing what you have both achieved. Your strength and love gives us all confidence in what can be achieved with the right support.
Good morning....love reading your updates and anyone else following Ralph's recovery and your dedication will feel the same I would imagine. What a journey for you both but it lets people know that you can pull through from being so very poorly which perhaps gives others hope. All the best to you both xx

Sue that is absolutely brilliant news , I bet you didn't think that a few month ago that you and Ralph would be this far along , god works in mysterious ways. Roll on that Xmas Dinner for both of you that Ralph can help make and that he can now enjoy too x
Thank you for letting us know. I can't believe how well Ralph has done especially reading your posts when he was in hospital and all the upset it caused you both .
He's like a new man but that's because he has the will power to get better but he wouldn't have that without your unending love and support. You truly are eachothers other halves and together you make a whole. Love does conquer all.
You sound happier and I hope you are feeling better healthwise and looking after yourself. Mind you bet if you don't Ralph will nag you . I am truly happy for you both . You are both inspirations that shows no matter what the will to live is strong . And the quality of life has improved for you both. 🥂🥂
He's used to the trachy now, but still going to try and cap it with a view to getting it removed eventually. May take a long time though, we'll see how it goes

He has come so far since getting home from hospital he is such a strong person and being back with you I am sure has helped him no ends. That's brilliant you can start planning a wee holiday for your 26th February is not too far away.. take care Char xx
Amazing progress and bright future for you both and a family. Ralph is a fighter for sure, but you are absolutely AMAZING how you have been and are handling the situation and supporting Ralph.👏
you are both amazing. I really enjoy your updates. Even in the tough times you always found the positives and now it’s going from strength to strength. It’s definitely a team effort. Congratulations hugs to you both x
Sue, the miracles Ralph has experienced in the face of what happened, and the joy it's bringing now, is the stuff of legends. It has really been a privilege to be sharing in it. Thank you Ralph, for undergoing all that then overcoming it. Thank you Sue, for enduring all the slaughtering worry and grief, sharing that, and now Ralph's Triumphs and both your joy. I'm guessing Bakewell tart is back in Ralph's life?!! Deep joy!! Love and thanks to you both and onward healing and strength. 💜💜
Thank you for the update, he is doing amazingly well. This is all brilliant news, onwards and upwards. Good luck with making further progress in the future
