Ablation follow up/complications

I was due to have a cardiac Ablation last Friday (11th May). During the procedure they carried out the electrophysiology study but then decided they could not do the full Ablation because it was too risky. Has this happened to anyone else? If so have you now had any other forms of treatment for your SVT? Also Did anyone else find the pain during the procedure absolutely unbearable?

Also because of the procedure I have developed pericarditis and have been told to take regular ibuprofen. It’s been 4 days and I’m still getting bad chest pain when I move. Has anyone had this and can share their experience of it with me please?

I’ve just turned 21 so am finding this all a bit of a shock to the system!

Thankyou!

I also can’t have ablation as the fault is on the left side of my heart, there is a higher risk of complications or stoke, this maybe why they haven’t gone ahead with you. I’ve been tried on propranolol, metoprolol and bisoprolol, they didn’t work for me so I am now being started on Verapramil which is an anti arrhythmia this can only be prescribed by a cardiologist. They will probably try you on something like the above meds I have mentioned.

I presume you have another appointment with your cardiologist soon?

Hi there!

They said they managed to stimulate my arrythmia but only very slightly (so not enough to make it worth taking the risk of ablating). They said it looked like Atrioventricular Nodal Re-Entry Tachycardia which is a form of SVT.

Do you get any horrible side effects from the drug you are on now? My next appointment with the cardiology isn’t until September! X

I would go back to your GP and let him know that you are not seeing your consultant until September and see if he can trial you on a beta blocker if your symptoms are troubling you and if you find you don’t get on with them, then your consultant can prescribe anti arrhythmia.

My main side affect from the beta blockers were they reduced my blood pressure too low and I fainted as a consequence.

I know your scared and this is overwhelming but there is always someone to talk to, you can also get in touch with a BHF nurses on here if you need support.

Stay positive

X

Me and my consultant discussed beta blockers but my blood pressure is way too low already unfortunately! Do you find the drug you are on now helps you?? Is there many side effects to it? Thankyou! X

I haven’t started it yet, due to start this week, if Verapramil doesn’t work then my back up is Flecainide which doesn’t have an effect on the blood pressure at all apparently but you can only get that from a cardiologist.

I will let you know how I get on with Verapramil
