looking for advice, awaiting a 72 hour monitoring

hi all I’m new to this, and have no experience at all this is all new to me.

fir some years now I’ve had a high heart rate (ranges from 89-125 resting) it’s very unstable and will just randomly become very high for no obvious reason at all. Over the last year I’ve started having ‘palpitations’.

a few days ago I was sat on my bed reading a book and I started having a palpitation again but this time it was very bad, I could feel the irregularity of it speeding up and missing a beat, it went on for about 1.5 minutes. I almost rang an ambulance because it scared me so much, it stopped and I was ok after.

I went to my gp today and she’s booked me in to have a 72hr monitor. When she took my blood pressure it was also high too. (Just to clarify im of a good weight, I’m very healthy no smoking, drinking and I exercise and I’m 33) she’s concerned with these figures over all with how young I am.

My worry is what if the monitor doesn’t pick anything up? I can sometimes have palpitations once a week, then on other occasions several times a day they’re very sporadic.

I should also mention, I have a close family history of heart disease and chronic high blood pressure.

Again, sorry if I’m posting in the wrong place etc I’m just not sure what to expect!

Welcome to the forum.

I agree palpitations are very scary when they happen I had an episode bout a year ago lasted about a week on and off just kept happening had so much investigation done I did go to A&E when it first started and they did bloods and ecg everything normal but told my heart consultant and they did alot of investigation aswell and I had countless holter monitors and eventually one picked up ventricular Tachycardia and In now on verapamil. Hope they can find the cause of yours keep us updated on how your monitoring goes.

thank you for replying! Did you ever have to have a scan on your heart? I’m so worried they’ll miss something… it’s frustrating because I know somethings not right.

Did you have a high pulse a lot? Was it always high or intermittent?

Do you mean like an MRI or an echo? I go for my yearly check up and have an echo done for my congenital heart defects. Yeah definitely stick to your guns and go with your gut instinct I didnt accept that I was imagining it or it was stress 🙄😐 ( they probably will try and blame it on that just a heads up but don't let them) I didn't and I kept on and on about it and I'm glad I did because I definitely wasn't imagining it, does your palpitations make you feel light headed and your heart to beat strange aswell?

hey, thanks all for your reassuring advice and support.

I had the halter monitor for 72 hours last week, and logged into my online doctors app and the results have been read and sent to my gp, it says ambulatory ECG results-abnormal.

I’ve got to book a gp appointment for the follow up. But I don’t think it’s urgent.

What could this mean? Not what I was hoping for, but in some ways I’m glad that something has finally been picked up!

just wanted to say, I’ve been diagnosed with SVT, I’ve got a urgent cardiology referral so hopefully it’ll be sorted out, trying to stay positive, at least now I know why I feel so tired and out of breath!
