I’ve suffered with palpitations & dizziness for a while now but on Saturday after stupidly brushing some leaves for my Mother, my heart started pounding & felt as if I was going to pass out, it passed after a while; although had another dizzy spell later.
Was ok yesterday until 4am this morning when I woke up & it literally felt as if I was having a heart attack, heart felt as if it was coming out of my chest, tightness, cold sensation, sweating & a dry mouth. I went straight up the hospital & 9 hours later they said the ecg’s & blood tests were clear but the doctor is concerned why I had that happen to me so has issued an emergency appointment to have a heart monitor fitted hopefully this week. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this & what did it turn out to be because I am very afraid this is going to happen again now before I have the heart monitor fitted & if nothing shows up when I do have it fitted ?

I can imagine it is a worrying time for you. I don’t think anyone on here can tell you what it is a part from share their experiences. What I will say is however, whilst waiting for the monitor to be fitted, to check your BP and heart rate. Every time you get the symptoms, it might be useful to take your BP once the event has passed so that you are safe to take it, and make a note of your heart rate. I have an Apple Watch so this takes my heart rate in the background throughout the day.
It would also be useful to note if you have any triggers for the palpitations. My palpitations increase during times of stress, lack of sleep, and the weather.
I have a type of angina which can wake me from my sleep from time to time. It is known as vasospastic angina where my coronary artery goes into spasm causing chest pain, upper back pain, and arm pain. I have previously been woken with chest pain, a very high heart rate/palpitations, and sweating. As these are very isolated events, they pass by the time the ambulance has arrived or I have reached hospital and my tests come back clear.
If you experience chest pain before your appointment for the heart monitor, please do not hesitate to call the ambulance again.
Saturday morning was our coldest night of the year so far and in this neck of the woods it stayed cold all day. so being outside brushing leaves would have meant the narrowing of blood vessels as the heart tries to cope. That might have shown up something that might have been hidden during warmer weather
You did the right thing going to hospital. Did they give you anything to assist the condition, say aspirin as a blood thinner?
Hi welcome to the forum and I hope the monitor will tell them what’s going on. Try and do the things that causes your events so the monitor picks it up. All the best.
Sounds very similar to what happened to my husband when he was having VT's. He has an ICD so the hospital were able to see exactly what was going on. The hospital monitors only give a snapshot of what is happening at that time, if nothing is happening then there's nothing to pick up.
I'm not saying that is what's happening with you but the monitor will be able to pick up if you are having any abnormal heart rhythms & hopefully it'll be easily sorted.
After my experience feeling like no one believed me saying it was anxiety and I kept saying ‘I know my body and there is definitely something wrong with my heart’. Eventually they listened so keep on and don’t give up. I have a pacemaker and defibrillator fitted now and feel like I’m back to my normal self I think it’s marvellous but it was down to my persevering that got the results. Good luck and hope you get to the bottom of it soon. My full situation is on my profile if you want to read it. I was having similar symptoms to you and tests over 13 years and wouldn’t want you to go that long before they find what is wrong and you get the correct treatment/medicine. Joy x
I have had similar symptoms but not so extreme since July when I had a stent fitted. I keept going to A&E and like you they found nothing. Finally I got a referal back to cardiology and they ordered a take home heart rhythm monitor to be put on whenever I hace an incident and a 24 hour blood pressure monitor. My symptoms seem to have calmed down recently so it maybe passing.
keep a diary of incidents and if you have a home blood pressure monitor use that to establish your baseline and wg=hat happens during an incident. try feeling your pulse, or just noticing your heart beat during the palpitations, and writing anything odd down as any information maybe useful to your doctors.
Sorry for the late reply & thank you for answering. I have a blood pressure monitor at home which I use, my blood pressure seems fine & my heart beats but it does show me having an irregular heart beat. Believe it or not they still haven’t fitted me with a heart monitor yet & doubt I’ll have one now until the New Year, which is worrying me as I’m still have episodes every so often & I can’t exert myself in any way.
I am waiting for one of those too but my symptoms have cleared up. My GP said to phone the surgery when symptoms occur or go to A&E and get an ECG done ASAP. Maybe ask kyour GP if this approach would be suitable for you?
