Hi got irregular heartbeat and about 8 weeks ago was put on bisoprolol and rivaroxaban. Palpitations settled down and I felt a lot better. Went back to see consultant who said my blood pressure was still a bit high and put me on ramipril. This started the palpitations again so GP changed me to candestartan.Still getting palpitations although blood pressure has gone down.

Feel like stopping the BP tabs but guess the experts know best.?

Anyone else had the same problem?

If you have any issues concerning your medication including side effects and their effectiveness you should consult with your prescribing health professional, in this case your GP from what you have said. You should certainly not stop taking any medication or reduce the dose without doing this.

There's a great forum on Health Unlocked just for people with heart arrhythmias. You'll find it here:

I would discuss the matter with your GP. It may be as simple as reducing the dose of the Candesartan or even trying another BP medication. It can take some time to get the balance of medication right. We are all different and only we know how medication affects us. That's why we need to be pro-active in respect of our health and part of the decision process when it comes to medication.

Do you have a history of high blood pressure? If not, the measurements at the surgery could be elevated due to "white coat syndrome". It can be better to check your BP at home while resting, but obviously you'd need to stop taking the Candesartan at some stage, so you should discuss it with the consultant and agree a plan, if you decide you'd like to do this.

I was put on bisoprolol and Rivaroxaban 20 initially. I did not do well on the bisoprolol so was changed to Diltaizem . I had loads of bruises and burst blood vessels in my eyes so the Rivaroxaban was reduced to 10 and I am doing well on that. The cardiologist I saw told me that the high dose of 20 is suggested by the manufacturer and it is not necessarily the right dose for all - better to see which is best for any given individual - 20 or 15 or 10. I am just reporting what I was told. All the best.

Hi, sorry to hear about your problems! It can be quite scary…. I was on Bisoprolol and it made my palpitations worse… so after a consultation I was taken off it. Also noticed that filter coffee and stress increased palpitations, so that would also be something to keep an eye on. Would advise to speak to your Doctor. Good luck!
