I am 4 months post 4 stents no HA. Quite fit and active before the event. Completed my rehab program 2 months ago. Completely changed my lifestyle more active and eating healthy. Added few extra and continuing my 3 days per week resistance training and 7 days walk 6-7km average. I am on 40mg station, brillianta, metroprolol and aspirin. I had lots of muscle pain mostly around shoulder, ribs chest and back.. with discussion with my GP and cardiologist started my magnesium and then coq10 later. Coq10 did help me bit but now next day after resistance training I get lots of muscle pain mainly muscle between ribs..back etc and taking longer to recover. Initially I felt it is early stages so but now it been 3.5 months since I have started. My cardiologist doesn't think it is statin. So wondering if anyone have a similar pain or takes longer to recover? If anything I can do to reduce the pain or recovery. I am 44 non smoker, non drinker and never was obese used to MTB , football and do long Walk, hike prior and never felt this ..

First of all, I wouldn't recommend changing anything medication-wise without speaking to your GP first. In your position I would seek to come off the statins for several weeks and see if you experience an improvement. This will give you a definitive answer as to whether it is likely to be the statins. They are known to cause muscle problems in some of the people who take them, and when looking at the mechanism as to how statins work, it is hardly a surprise. It is disappointing that your cardiologist has dismissed it out of hand.

I stress again, I wouldn't try this without first discussing it with your GP.

Thanks Alfred, yes my cardiologist doesn't think it's to do with statin..as pain are random . But I have a next catch up and will bring that to her.

Thanks that was unexpected, I do stretch 5-10 mins before and after training and walk . And occasionally do yoga stretches 10 mins or so. I may do little longer and see if it helps I have been doing this for last 3.5 months I guess my body must be used to by now..

Coq10 though improved some

Hi, just seen this post as it was emailed to be give my opinion about Coq10, rather than comment on this supplement, which has yet to be proved to aid anyone taking statin therapy. You are almost on the same meds as I am, I also suffered a lot of rightside chest pain, shoulder pain, and upper back pain.So I did some research and came to the conclusion my pain was actually gastric rather than statin related. However it was the sudden increase in meds after my heart attack. So you can expect some stomach upsets after starting the new meds

What I did was review my diet, after months of suffering at time unbearable pain, more after eating, and taking my blood thinners. I was giving ppis but they were useless.

So I removed all acidic foods from my diet, which I thought was healthy heart diet.

I would eat a bowl of Soya yoghurt, blueberries, raspberries for breakfast, and this would be the start of my daily pain. I would use a lot of cider vinegar in my salads. All these foods are highly acidic, therefore it increased the stomach acid which was the cause of the pain behind my breastbone, shoulder, and back.

Try to avoid any acid producing foods also cut out caffeine. For example read the ingredients on yoghurt pots, anything containing citric acid is a big no no. Also avoid fructose, such as jams, honey and fruit juices.

And to finish drink lots of water with meds ,and increase your daily intake of fresh vegetables.

It worked for me I just watch my diet ,and make sure meds are always taking after food with plenty of water.
