I am three weeks post stent, just one main artery. Last night I got so excited about being able to get up and down off floor l did five mins of squatting to floor and coming up, laying on floor and coming up, few squats etc. Then five mins later I had a big palm sized egg bruise on front of my shin right leg and very slightly smaller raised black and blue bruise on left 🤦🏻♀️ Freaked me right out. I put ice on them and they looked bit better. Gone down a lot more this morning. Scared to take dogs out now 😱 I know this may sound ridiculous but pre stent I had a lot of pain in my calves and couldn’t do much walking etc and I have no pain now and just assumed I was ok in that respect. Has anyone else experienced this at all? Thank you in advance.

I got very black large raised lumps on my feet and legs, I was still in hospital awaiting a stent fitting. I got so upset because I thought they were blood clots I had a bit of a panic attack. It was the Ticagrelor. They changed them to clopidogrel but I still get lots of small bruises popping up on my arms and legs.Lily
i am 12 weeks post having stents fitted and on Clopidagel and get bruises all the time i was told this would probably happen and not to worry they mostly happen on my arms and legs and the slightest knock and a bruise appears
Thank you 🙏 I expected bruises, just not the big lumpy bruises, when I hadn’t even bumped or knocked myself. Seems it is quite normal tho, which is great to know. 😎
I had it also. The Ticagrelor had the same effect on me. It can also cause nose bleeds, and if you cut yourself it will take a little longer to clot. It is standard practice to be on Ticagrelor for 12 months post stenting. It does not look pretty, but is vital protection against further blood clots especially in the early weeks.
If you need to have any other minor surgery e.g tooth extraction you'll need to advise the doctor/ dentist responsible.
I am on ticagrelor and covered in bruises most days. I don’t even have to bump myself. I have been told it is the ticagrelor and as it is only for a year I may as well ride it out 5months to go
Hi, as gilreid1 said, the anti-platelet meds we're placed on are to blame. I had my stents back in Feb and with the soluble Aspirin and Ramapril, unfortunately bruising and the odd nosebleed (v minor) are the result. I've got bruises from nowhere most days, I don't recall any knocks or bumps, but they're there!
Try to think of them as a mark of triumph, I've got this, I've come through this, after all you have haven't you?
I think bruising comes from so-called blood thinners. Are you taking any of these? I have constant bruises from the most innocuous of knocks. And they take ages to go away. Good luck!
Sure you are right. I am on Ticagrelor - am very easily bruised now but was worried as these seem to have come from leg exercises and were really swollen. Maybe I did knock myself without knowing tho. Small price to pay for being so well now tho 🙏
I’m on Ticagrelor too and also aspirin. If you’re female, there’s a great book called ‘A woman’s guide to living with heart disease’ by Carolyn Thomas. She talks about bruises just appearing from nowhere. I got my last stent in Nov of last year and am hoping they’ll take me off Tica after a year. Still, it’s great to be alive!
