blood thinners
Hello boredom, yes the blood thinners can cause a lot of bruising. I am not sure how long you have been on the meds? I am due to stop taking Clopidogrel as it will be one year since my heart surgery and I believe I stop it after one year. Not sure, but perhaps you will be the same with Tricalegor? I am not medically qualified so best check with the doctor. Take care, Judi
I found Clopidogrel was the main culprit for really bad bruising. After 12 months and you come off it things won't be as bad when just on Asprin alone. Good luck.
Could very well be the Tricalegor I had bruising when I took this medication. Usually prescribed for 12 months and after this the bruising stopped completely. If any doubts discuss with your GP.
I will try to discuss it with my GP although very hard over here they just seem to be getting worse been on them since April
This is a picture of my fingers about 6 weeks after starting on Aspirin and Ticagrelor, I had lots of bruises that just appeared all over my body!!
Same here. More bruising with ticagrelor, they were very large.
Doctor changed them to clopidogrel, still get bruising but usually small ones popping up randomly 😲.

Hello
When I was in Hospital and was put on it my husband was gently stroking my feet ( for some strange reason ) after just a few minutes we looked at my feet and they were black !
He ran to get a Nurse frightened of what was happening and there was a Consultant in the corridor who came to look instead
They just calmly said don't worry it is the blood thinners she is on this is quite common and you might get this often
When I got home I did some days I would look like I had been in a boxing match they were that bad
After a year and now just on Aspirin at 75mg I hardly get a bruise at all
Of course if you are concerned show your Doctor but it is quite common x
Many thanks for all your lovely replies this site is so helpful as i said before cardio nurse gone on long holiday and haven't spoken to cardilogist since leaving hospital only on phone. Gp impossible to get to see where I live N Ireland so really struggling. Your input is so good just hope they disappear once I am taken off just have to hope things get better, am now seeing mental health nurse who is trying to help.
Hello
Sorry you are struggling to get to speak or see someone it can be quite difficult I know but as far as the bruising goes it really is common and as I said we wondered what had happened to my feet turning black but once we knew we accepted the bruisers and once of the meds rare now I get one

Thank you also for your kind words x
I live in County Antrim Boredom, so I know what you mean about trying to see a GP! I was prescribed Clopidogrel and aspirin after a heart attack and triple bypass in February this year. The frequent bruising popping up in the oddest of places was really surprising at first - the lightest knock, even on the back of my hands, and a huge bruise would appear. It seems to have calmed down a lot now though and definitely not as bad as it was. I presume it's just my body getting used to the medication now.
I’ve been on clopidogrel and atorvastatin for few years now after being diagnosed with aps after a form of tia stoke but yes if I do any form of hard work I do bruise very easily. My daughter is moving house just now and I’m bruised a lot
I am on same medication and due to stop in October, I have been on it for 3 years for the first year bruises would appear at the slightest bump. Arms, legs, back, stomach and sometimes my face!!! They have got less or I just don’t notice them anymore. It seems part and parcel of the treatment no one was unduly worried.
I constantly wake up with new inexplicable bruising since being on Ticagrelor
hey! It looks like everybody has already put your mind at ease but yes, it’s relatively normal! I’m younger so my skin integrity is good but my bruising has been quite bad! I’ve even had my eyeballs bruise and I didn’t think you could really bruise your hands/fingers but it’s turns out you can on blood thinners!!
OMG☹️
yes i did i asked my cardiologist to take me off it he did and just left me on asprin
Hi there - I’m the same as you and am due my follow up after stent today so will mention. I did some squats and five mins of getting up and down off floor in excitement the other day, as I’d not been able to do this for a long time pre/stent. Within ten minutes I had huge swollen bruises on both shins - like half eggs and size of my palm. This really worried me as I do bruise when knocked but sure this was just thru exercise? They are taking ages to go down too. Oh, I did knock my arm after and a lump and bruise came up on that within ten minutes or so too. I’m on Tricalegor. Will post cardio response later today 😎
I always bruise - even when I took steroids in small doses (7 days) for my "asthma". I especially bruise on my wrists and the back of my hands now as I'm on clopidogrel and Asprin post ASD repair. It's when I put my ruck strap straps on and "scrape" my skin. Hopefully when I finish the Colpidogerel after 3 months things should be settled.
Hi,
After a year on both I was advised to drop ttricalegor as it was 12 months since cabg. I have noticed reduction in bruising (massive). If it’s a concern then talk to GP.
this looks and sounds so scary!
I’m on rivaroxaban and never bruised.
My only issue is extremely heavy periods but I guess that if you no longer have this other thing to think about or you’re a man, there are no issues at all 😉
I’d speak to the doctor if I were you!
Good luck
yes. They just appear and take ages to go away. Good luck with this!
been om these for 18months im still black and blue sometimes a white dot in centre im always knocking myself in work im 48
Hi boredom yeah my arms and legs are the same the slightest graze and I look like I’ve been in a fight. I’m on Prasugrel and aspirin. Hopefully just an unwanted side effect hope you are well otherwise x
yes I do. I bumped my leg in the gym and had a massive bruise with an egg in the middle. It took about 2 weeks to clear. In general I seem to attract more bruising that I’m not aware of.
sorry I am on Chloridipel and Aspirin
Hello Boredom. I was on aspirin for a while and had a very bad reaction to it. I was put on apixaban instead and tolerate that quite well. For me, apixaban does not cause bruising. Two things to bear in mind though. First, I was not put onto aspirin for a heart condition. Second, I have a very low platelet count regardless of any medication.
My suggestion is that you have a word with your specialist and ask about apixaban as an alternative to prevent clots. It is an anti-coagulant rather than an anti-platelet.
Ask your specialist to discuss the relative merits of each type of medication with you, given your individual condition and situation. Many specialists were initially reluctant to prescribe apixaban owing to its high cost, which I believe has now greatly reduced.
I hope you are found an alternative that works for you and causes less bruising.
I have this also and have spoken to Drs and apparently it’s normal and shows that they are working
hi. Was on ticagralor for 12 months after my heart attack. Only needed to look at something and I had a whopper of a bruise! Now i'm off it my bruises have returned to normal sizing and colour related to whatever i bang myself on lol
Good luck. Julie
I am on Clopidogrel, as a preventive measure and like you suffer the most awful bruises and really wanted to come off of the medication as the slightest pressure or knock and I come out in big ugly bruises, but told to stay on the meds. Best to talk to your GP/Consultant about it, but I am reluctantly putting up with it!
Perfectly normal; happens to everyone.
Yes, I do as well. I think it is quite common with dual antiplatelet therapy (Ticagrelor etc) I also suffered with nosebleeds. Might be worth talking to you GP, mine adjusted the dose to reduce the risk of nosebleeds.
i had the same. As soon as I stopped Tricaladore brusing stopped. On aspirin only- get little bruising but not much.
Hi there yes same here. Massive bruising and swelling at the slightest knock. They are so unsightly and takr ages to go away. On the same as you Ticagrelor and Aspirin
yes ve only gotta nip myself and it looks like I've hit myself with a hammer,,,
Yes Bruising is quite common when taking Ticagrelor. I was taken off Ticagrelor after 12 months, And after 6-8 weeks the Bruising stopped.
