Hey all.Just wondering if anyone has changed from warfarin to apixaban? I'm due to change to apixaban next week once my anti-coagulant nurses have found out what dose I'm to have. Is anyone else on this medication? If so what's your experience.
Thanks in advance

I’m on Apixaban, 5mg morning & 5mg evening. I haven’t had any side effects at all from it (I am on a lot of other meds too). Hope the transition is smooth for you.
I've never had warfarin, was originally prescribed Rivaroxaban, but was changed to Edoxaban which didn't suit me, then to Apixaban which also didn't suit, do back to Rivaroxaban. I must stress that I react to many medications, it's a weird family thing, most people can take the NOACs with no problem.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I really didn't want to take them as I've always bled too freely, had horrible images in my head. But they are certainly neccesary for me, since having AF my blood has changed, I don't bleed very much at all, in fact I had a tooth out without any blood at all, and before AF I would have been bleeding for at least 2 days. One of my funniest memories is the surgeon's face when I was speaking to him before my first ever surgery, and he told me I would need a drain as according to my notes I was "a bit of a bleeder."
Only ever been on apixaban. No problems, no blood testing,no dietary restrictions. The dose is either 2 x5mg or if over 75,underweight or either kidney problems, half that. X
Good morning Cherrelleford. I was on Apixaban. Injections that I had to give myself in the stomach. But only for 2 weeks after getting a blood clot in my shoulder after having a pacemaker inserted. No side effects at all. Hope everything goes well for you. Brian
I've been on Apixaban for five years and absolutely no problems - including the hospital having to deal with a punctured artery (long story). No problems - don't be concerned about reversibility - the hospital told me it really isn't an issue.
Did you get a reason for the change? I am intrigued as to why this was suggested, have you had problems with warfarin? I have only ever been prescribed Warfarin, on it for 35 years so far and it has never given me any problems, even with dental extractions. Hope that the transition goes smoothly.
No reason. I was originally only meant to be on warfarin for 6 months but still on it 2 years later. The anticoagulant nurses kept asking if I was to stay on it or finish. After a heart scan my consultant has said to change to the new DOAC tablets. Not had any issues with warfarin, my inr isn't always in range. But I have to be in range before changing over.
Hi I’ve just changed to Edoxaban. It seems like they’re taking us all off warfarin. I haven’t really noticed much difference. I had to take my last warfarin dose on the Sunday then the Wednesday I had to collect Edoxaban, and if my INR was 2 or under I could begin taking it, which it was. If it wasn’t I would have to take another blood test the next day.
I know apixaban comes in 2.5mg or 5mg but other than that I know nothing. My last INR was 3.1. so having it checked again on Monday as I have to be in range before starting, also having a full blood test on Friday as well to make sure everything is ok before I change.
