Update on panic attacks

rang GP this morning. He said I needed to do something immediately and said I needed a check up. I’m just back from the doctor who said my BP was high but thought it was the anxiety of having to see her so wasn’t worried about it. We had a long discussion of what help I needed and agreed that it would have to be meds for at least a year. She says they’ll make me worse for the first week so I’ve warned hubby to buy a crash helmet. She’s also given me information on the Talking Therapies website. Thanks for all the advice.

Hello :-)

I am so pleased you have been and spoken to your Doctor :-)

Yes it is true the meds can make you feel worse before you feel better but ride that out and it will be worth the benefits :-)

We are here if you need us and good luck to hubby :-)

Well done :-) x

On a positive note my daughter recommended a pet cool pad. It’s wonderful for my hot feet. 😂

Well done Have you tried meditation

I suffer from Anxiety thought to be due to having to take Steroids.

I get hot them shaky feel sick and have a loud heart beat . if you can distract yourself by going for a walk , watching TV, or reading i does help but mine are not every day.

Make a bit of time for your self each day.

Yes I’ve tried meditating but I knew I’d tried everything else. My GP surgery has looked after me very well and they knew I’d come to the end of my tether. Thank you. Take care.

Dear Maisie2014

I am so pleased that you have a good relationship with your Dr and that some help has come your way with the talking therapy.

I have also been put onto this { Steps to well-being } and at the moment it is by telephone, all ready a pattern is a merging and hopefully it will help make me feel better about the situation that I have found myself in and give me help to get out of it.

Good luck with it all, I shall be thinking of you.

Hi Maisie,

Everybody’s different but when I started taking anti-anxiety medication it took about 3 weeks to take effect & I’ve known others to take over 4 weeks.

The way the meds work is they initially make you feel even worse. The mistake so many people make is to think ‘I feel worse than ever, these pills aren’t working’ & they stop.

My personal experience is that I felt worse but I’d expected that & wanted to get better so I put up with it. Literally overnight, about 3 weeks after starting, I suddenly felt better, not euphoric but as if the weight of anxiety & that dark cloud had lifted.

Good luck & best wishes! 👍🏼

Well done Maisie2014, it took courage to take the step for help . I have been having panic attacks and depression recently but didn’t tell anyone as I felt I was being weak. I finally phoned the surgery. Was put in contact with the mental health team, and I am waiting for cbt. But I am going to ask the doctor about medication as I feel so desperate most days . I hope you feel better soon.

Not sure why my comment was deleted, probably by the moderator, but the world that we live in now has become so narrow and prescribed (is that woke?) that I think it will be the last comment I will make, however, good luck in the future.

I think that may be my fault. I added a comment then went back and deleted it. I may have deleted yours at the same time. Sorry.

Thanks for the reply Maisie, I did suggest that Beta Blockers were supposed to help with the suppression of physical symptoms of panic attacks, racing heart rate etc etc, and thought it may have been considered by the moderator as prohibited drug advice....if it wasn't then my apologies to the moderators.

Good luck
