Had a phone call from cardiac department today, it was the secretary again who said my consultant said my echo was fine. Phew good news. I asked about my calcium ct scan result and she didn’t know that. I said could she ask my consultant for the result and why did he think I needed an angiogram. She’s going to ask and ring me another day. I know the nhs is busy but the poor woman is being a go between and if a doctor spoke with me I’d get the answers immediately without the waiting and worrying. Would I have an angiogram as a cautionary procedure? I just want to know if the first calcium ct scan showed anything, if not could my breathing problems be due to my lungs? Maybe I’m too impatient lol

I think at times like this we all can be impatient but good news about the first test result so that is something to feel good about and lets hope the rest are just as good
They will come soon and my Doctor always says with results not sure if she is right but if something is really wrong they get flagged up and sent through quicker so having to wait hopefully is a good sign x
We say no news is good news too so hoping it’ll all be ok. I’ll ring hospital again next week for calcium scan results and then be patient waiting for angiogram appointment. Thank you x
I don't think you're impatient, I think the doctors don't understand what a knife edge they put us on.About the angiogram, are you asking would they do one as a cautionary measure? Yes they would. They wanted me to have one 3 years ago, all because I'd had chest pain 6 YEARS earlier, which I had, of course, got checked out at the time.
Hope you get all your results soon, and all is good.
I think I assumed an angiogram was because there was something wrong so it’s good to know it can be precautionary. I’m worried that my breathing problems are lung related as I used to smoke as my heart tests are ok so far. I’m just a born worrier lol. Thank you for your reassurance
Try not to worry, these things certainly take time. In the past five years I've had occasional chest pain and breathing difficulty on exertion. I've had this now for several years, but am otherwise healthy. Over time I've had several EGS, blood tests, an angiogram, lung function tests.... and nothing untoward shows up. Sometimes they can carry out umpteen tests but still not know a cause. So I continue to take the recommended statin as an anti inflammatory and aspirin, and try to avoid exertion in the heat or very cold, which tend to trigger the symptoms.
Thank you. I’m a bit like you I think, I get a bit short of breath sometimes if I exert myself but sometimes I feel ok. Humidity seems to affect me. I’ll keep on with the aspirin and cross my fingers. Take care of yourself
not impatient at all. The NHS are excellent but it’s basic stuff I would think to feedback on all results. Surely they would know if they missed a result in terms of telling you it would worry you. He will have seen you need the result in top of the other surely and should have fed back. It’s a sign of the times I’m afraid
I know they are busy and strikes don’t help plus my registrar left and not sure if she’s been replaced but like you say, it’s basic stuff to give test results. I think sometimes they’re too busy to remember we are human! Can’t fault the speed of appointments as my echo was going to be September but I had it two weeks ago. Our trust here is very good
That is great news about your echocardiogram! I’m really glad that your heart seems to be fine!
Breathing problems (lungs) can be the cause of shortness of breath. I believe that I mentioned to you a few days ago that I am scheduled for an echocardiogram this coming Thursday. I have been having problems with shortness of breath/trouble breathing since my HA.
My CT scan in April 2023, showed that I had angiomegaly (enlarged heart) and an enlarged diameter pulmonary artery. My doctor, at that time, suggested that this could be related to pulmonary arterial hypertension. I really hope not—but that could explain the problems with breathing. We had a discussion about a week ago in which she suggested that shortness of breath/difficulty breathing could be due to other possible health concerns—none of these will be what I want to hear.
I have anxiety disorder, and you can probably tell that I am already beginning to worry too much about the echocardiogram coming up this week. Anyway, my original point was that your breathing problems could potentially be more directly related to your lungs rather than heart. That is just one possibility for your breathing problems.
Last week, my doctor explained that an echocardiogram can provide information about both the structure of your heart and the functioning of your heart. I am not a doctor, but I would tend to think that this additional test that you are scheduled for is due to something that was seen on the echocardiogram. Can you ask your doctor why this test is going to be performed? What are your doctors trying to see? Was the echocardiogram able to eliminate any concerns related to your pulmonary artery and/or lungs as being related to your breathing issues?
I am not trying to scare you in any way. I am just saying that breathing issues can be caused by heart problems, lung problems, and even things like anxiety can cause breathing issues. I would suggest talking with your doctor/specialist about what the echocardiogram report fully reported. What did they learn about heart structure and functioning? Why do they feel that a more invasive test is also needed? What are they specifically trying to find with this more invasive test?
I’m positive that every test will give a better and broader picture of your heart health—so, in that sense, having any available test will give valuable information. I wish you the best in getting to the root of your breathing issues. I know that I also want to figure out what is causing mine.
Please keep us informed as to how you are doing and what you learn. Best wishes! ❤️
Hi Smitty. Thanks for your info. My echocardiogram was ok I was told. I haven’t been given my calcium ct scan results which I had before the echocardiogram. I’m now waiting for an angiogram. I’ve asked for my ct scan results and also asked why I’m having an angiogram and hoping hospital will ring me next week. My GP hasn’t been given any results yet. If I could talk with the doctor I could ask questions but i only speak with the cardiac secretary who can only give me basic info, it was her who told me I need an angiogram, not one doctor rang me to discuss this with me! I guess it’s a waiting game for now.I’m worried that I actually have a lung problem instead of heart problems. I’ll have a look at the site you gave me the link for. Good luck with your echocardiogram and I hope you have a good result. Please let me know 🤞 x
