A 'How are you feeling today? thread

My recent post about feedback has so far generated 125 replies and counting. However many replies seem to be of a 'How are you feeling today?' nature and general discussion, and often little to do with the main topic, and so this dilutes the main discussion. It is clear that many members on here enjoy the opportunity to have a chat with fellow members about themselves and things in general when given an opportunity, and since there is nothing available to them of a general nature on here this appears to be a big shame because, as people are pointing out, is it a chance to share and perhaps cope with personal health issues and perhaps life in general, especially since most have a common heart health issue.

So on the assumption that it doesn't break any rules about subject matter, how about this as a starting point as an ongoing thread, where people can join in as and when as they feel the need when they want about things of a general nature and/or just want a chat.

Hello as no one has replied thus far I’ll start the ball rolling, it’s a good idea, is there anyway of “pinning” the post at the top so always see it? I find once a post goes to the bottom of first page it loses momentum. I know there is latest activity I think as a filter but for new people it would be good to be at the top like on Facebook!

How am I feeling today, in pain, cream crackered and trying to wait patiently for that blessed letter for my next test. But a bit of telly then bed - life can still be good 😊

in reply to

Good for you for starting this off. 👍

Perhaps others will join in.

Anyway hopefully something good on the telly for you.

I have to say I rarely watch it. Although I sometimes watch catch up on iPlayer and find something on Netflix.

Cant help with keeping this as a sticky or whatever they are called . Admins to the rescue perhaps?

Here in Australia 5am Fri. Trying not to think what challenge the day will bring, as I get scared thinking about it. Health problems are so much harder when you are a carer. Take care. Moni

in reply to MONIREN

I’m not a carer but am a single parent and how to feel like your getting it wrong every day and then coping with health and work and laundry etc. so I feel your pain. Wow it’s always awesome knowing your talking to someone so far away yet “so close” as it were. Wishing you a day with good bits that outweigh the not so good bits. 😀

It was hard enough being a parent, let alone a single parent. Challenges to face, children have a way of testing you, each one so different, what seemed to work on one had absolutely no effect on the next one. Yet, now as they have their own children, they remember how wonderful they were. Lol. Take care of yourself!! Moni

Hi Lowerfield, I think it is a great idea. I am not sure how we might pin the posts under ‘How you are feeling today’ , unless we asked one of the BHF moderators for their thoughts? If we could use the posts as a way to continue to support each other and enable them to know they are not alone, must be a good thing. Take car, Judi

I have had a fairly good day.

I like the warm weather, my blood vessels behave themselves more and I have less angina.

I walked my dog Millie, watered my and my neighbour's garden, picked some home grown tomatoes.

Then crashed on the sofa for a sleep.

I am also waiting patiently for an appointment for a stress echo which I am not looking forward to at all.

Millie cooling off.

Good morning from not so sunny Glasgow, it's now approaching my new hearts 2nd anniversary and I am off to the golden jubilee, my transplant hospital for clinic and an echo, I still thank my donor there family and the wonderful NHS every day for my second crack at life, I still have a few non heart related health issues and I am inclined to get anxious a lot in case something happens!!. Ta for starting the thread I don't post much but I try and answer anything I can, char

That’s a really good idea. I have a preference for the posts that focus on an issue, or ask for help, and responders share their knowledge or personal experiences about that issue. I turn off when the replies seem to focus on sympathy and support only.

Now of course support is great, but here, I do find it revealing a lot about the repliers and their needs, taking away from the serious questions asked, and maybe even off-putting to those that could reply very usefully, giving shared experiences or information.

A separate ‘How are you Today’ thread might be very popular, and really good for those who most want a concerned chat and mutual support.

I will contact BHF. See what they think.

Good morning......I think this is a great idea. General chat and perhaps some laughs, might do those of us who aren't coping well, or perhaps having a down day, a whole lot of good . Not everyone has the luxury of people around them or someone to lend a listening ear. This will be good as long as people stay kind and thoughtful and remember the good faith it was set up in. 👍 X

Great idea. I find a lot of my friends ask ‘how are you today?’ But don’t really want to know the answer … so my answer is usually the standard ‘fine’. I’m sure it would be a great wee place to visit and have a laugh or a rant … or a kind word of reassurance 💖❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Good morning. Great idea, Lowerfield, though it could become overloaded. As for me, I was waiting for a telephone appointment from a cardiologist at the Royal Free but it never happened. Granted it was made a year ago, but still. They have diaries don’t they?

That's happened to me too.I am also a patient at the Royal Free.

I contacted my Cardiologist and I now see him face to face in his Friday am clinic.

Great idea Lowerfield. I'm, so far, having a lazy day and feeling a bit idle when I know I've so many things that I should be doing! Back to work on a phased return on Monday, exactly five months to the day since my triple bypass op. Feeling good about that.......! A bit warm, overcast and windy here in Northern Ireland today so that knocks my plans for gardening and outside painting on the head (don't know whether to feel good or bad about that especially when I'm feeling idle!) 😀😆

Posts will always no doubt go of subject but then they tend to get back on tack and you cannot suggest people do any other Bearing in mind anything we do not enjoy reading we are not forced to read if we do not enjoy or get anything from it

If this post was pinned to the side

1. Some people could miss it as not everyone tends to look at the pinned posts

2. Only the poster will get notifications when there has been an entry so unless members keep looking on there they will not be aware of new entries only replies they get personally

3. So whoever posts the post will have to be prepared to be notified of every single entry and every reply that may be to someone else this can become quite a lot to follow

However it can be a good idea as on other Communities have done making it a weekly thing

So for example

A site might on a Friday every week have a post called Come and talk Friday or whatever title you want to give it

Members soon get to know that is a regular thing on a Friday and can log on and join in if they wish

This can still get busy but has worked a lot better than a pinned post that over time gets cluttered and hard to keep up with and people can follow it easier knowing a new post will start every week even though they can still keep talking on the weeks before posts

This could be a better way to try and keep something like this running

However I shall still talk and ask people how they are on other posts as there is no rule to say you cannot do so and of course no one that does not like it has to read them

Could I suggest as well that we do like to talk but while we are busy doing so there are a lot of unanswered posts sitting there without a reply

Lat night I went into the unanswered posts and felt so sad to see members without 1 reply

I know we do not always have the answers and that is why they may be left unanswered but how that member must feel then to see other posts getting replies makes me wonder

I tried to answer as many as I could even if to let the member know I had read their post and would like to know how they get on as this can mean such a lot to someone

So while we are all having opinions , dislikes etc on a free forum I would like to suggest could we all from time to time look at the unanswered posts and let everyone on here know we care enough to even if a hello is all we have to offer show them that they are welcome and not been ignored

Not sure if this is worthy of a reply Lowerfield but please do not feel you have to :-) x

in reply to

OK. All I have done is to float the idea, and some have already posted to give it a 👍. However how it works will be down to the BHF if they support the idea, and I will certainly have no say in that, although Kristin1812 has said he will contact them. In the end if it runs it will be up to members how they use it, and from a personal perspective how frequently.

in reply to

I never said it was a bad idea it has worked on other Communities I was just pointing out a few pointers through experience been on other Communities that have done something similar which I hoped might help make it a success on here

As always it is personal choice in which way you do it :-)

Have a lovely weekend :-)

I have contacted BHF, and will let you know when they (Helen) reply. See what they suggest.

Yeah, a good idea, but, I don't think the website set-up is particularly user friendly, to avoid it being swamped and disappearing from view.

Anyway, back to me, I'm feeling quite well today.

I played my first round of golf in over 10years.

Played might not be the best word to describe my performance, more like I thrashed golf balls all over the place today. I found it tiring after about 12 holes, but, well worth it for the exercise. Tomorrow may be a bit different as the body seizes up.

Hello :-)

Very true when I see a post I have no clue about I leave it hoping those that do will answer

But I leave it a week or so look in unanswered posts and if no one has still not answered I reply saying I do not have the answer but how are they

I did this last night and the members were so grateful even though I could not give them the answer they needed :-) x
