I’m not making any point other than don’t base decisions on what the media says because as you see, within a 7-day period they’ve published 2 completely opposing articles!

I agree!

All very unhelpful.

I don't smoke but from my understanding

Smoking really not good

Vaping not ideal but less bad than smoking

Not smoking best.

If vaping can be used as a way of weaning off smoking then perhaps it can be used a temporary solution?

However longterm studies need to be carried out so people can quantify the true risks of vaping to make an informed choice.

Def need more long term studies

I would happily volunteer if they'd only ask!

👍

I know vaping isn’t good, but if it wasn’t for the odd vape when I’m stressed I know I’d definitely be back on the fags.

I'm not going by the articles. I'm going by the medical issues of death

2 people just died in a local hospital last week age 22 and 43

I would argue with any cardiologist who told my family member either one is good for you or one better than the other. Neither is good.

Hi Dolphin14, the media here has reported a number of deaths in the USA but I thought the deaths were due to vaping cannabis, is that not the case?

Vit e acetate added to e cigs or other vaping products

This article doesn't give me a full sense that md are saying it's ok

Better alternative? Don't we know enough by now to do whatever we can to protect our cardiovascular and pulmonary health?

That's my point really.

As you can see I'm an anti smoker.

I've seen many people die from smoking related illness.

Is it worth it?

in reply to Dolphin14

Oh... no it's not worth it,

No it's not worth it. I know it for a fact, because i only have 1 lung working..( SMOKING RELATED )..

Any Smokers reading this..

( Please, Please give it up.!!! ).

I know that it's hard to give it up.

But it's gonna be even harder if you don't.💪 So be strong and give it up.

And yes

I understand we are dealing with two different countries with different regulatory rules.

Things are def different here

But there's a bottom line to smoking.

I often use American Heart Foundation website, rather than BHF site if I wanted to look for some info.

(I fully respect the BHF for their useful campaigns/research they do)

In the UK, something like B*C info is so reduced that the fact is no longer recognisable or plain lost.

It's primarily geared to young kids by looking at their layout.

GP hardly understand the basic of Cardiology (confirmed by some threads/posts). My GP thinks I got no Cardiac disease.

Quite pathetic but I remain quiet, no point of arguing.

Their knowledge is very shallow, but they must be good at admin side of running patients care. So there.

It may be likely that in the USA, they got all the basics covered amongst primary physicians, who understand the complexity of Cardiac/pulmonary conditions.

That would be useful.

People aren't interested in details here in the UK.

Details are often seen as something negative.

"Why don't you get to the point!"

If they were looking for the full texts, they weren't checking B*C site!

Such site only gives some quick "flavour" or "today's topic" that would be forgotten by 5pm this evening.

There will be something else that will also be forgotten soon.

Nothing more.

That's what BBC is.

I totally agree no smoking, it's just as an ex smoker I know how really difficult it is to give it up. Vaping wasn't around when I stopped smoking so fortunately I didn't have to make that choice. My sister gave up by substituting to the chewing gum & then got addicted to the gum!

I was trying to illustrate how fickle the media is.

I gave up smoking accidentally via vaping to save money, 5 years ago. Whilst in no way would I say vaping is ‘safe’, I think it is far preferable to smoking. I don’t do either now and of course am a rabid anti-smoker.

But the tabloid media really does influence some to make knee jerk decisions.

Agree

How do you accidentally give up smoking? And yeah us ex smokers are the worse ever, don't you think?

in reply to Lezzers

Yep

Are you referring to smoking or on general??

in reply to Lezzers

I’ve got a pork pie flavoured vape juice at the minute, you can taste the traditional British Pork Pie recipe, with a crunchy Hot Water Crust Pastry, filled with chopped, seasoned pork and a strong stock which sets into a delightful savoury jelly.

That sounds most repulsive!

in reply to Lezzers

Yes it is to be honest. Might get me to quit vaping

The initial spur was to save for an expensive holiday. Last fag on 24 April 2014. Went onto vaping, gradually just forgot to use it.

5 years later, almost to the day, HA. FFS!

I hope you got to go on your expensive holiday. And looking on the positive side (which I always try to do as it annoys hubby!!😂) how much worse could the HA have been had you still been 🚬! Best thing I ever did was give it up but can't really say I noticed more money in my pocket, I think I substituted shopping for smoking!

I do find the constant carping about the bbc annoying. The reported that people had died in the usa and vaping was being blamed. Some time later they said it had found that they were all something to do with an ingredient in cannabis vapes. Both correct when reported. What's wrong with that?

Forget I ever mentioned it 🙈

I understood vaping can cause "popcorn lung" aka bronchiolitis obliterans.

webmd.com/lung/popcorn-lung

Again no direct experience but believe it is the cheap vaping liquids more likely to have chemical irritants.

My OH stopped smoking when in his 40s because told it would give him a chance of getting off his bp meds and his solo flying category back ( RAF) He never did. However he is still here to tell the tale at 75

I smoked for 45 years. Vape helped me give up. I’ve not had a cigarette for 5 months, and I’ve not even been close to having one. I smoked a lot. The US deaths, all but about 2 I think, all seem to have come from smoking cannabis related substances, or at least things not commercially produced for vaping. Based on the percentage of deaths from vaping, I think it’s more dangerous to boil a kettle. But yes, not enough long term data yet. If you smoke, stop, even if you vape instead. If I can give up, anyone can. Get a person who vapes to talk you thru the change so you know how to do it and what to expect. Set yourself up for success. Happy to help anyone trying 🤪

I can only speak for myself. I have smoked since I was 18 I am now 65. I have managed a few attempts at quitting but stressors always made me lapse. I have been Vaping now for about 2 years. My reason for trying this was my cough. It was horrible, phlegmy, and constant. I was getting scared. So I thought to wean myself off the cigs and bought a vape. After 3 weeks my cough had gone and I mean totally, my breathing improved significantly. I find I can go longer without craving a puff than I ever could with the cigs. I am going to try and quit the vape as I know it still has risks but at the moment I am just glad to have got rid of my "smokers cough"
