Light-Headedness

I had my HA about 4 years ago , but just recently I've been experiencing quite a bit of light-headedness so I got in touch with the doctor who has been changing my tablets around to adjust my BP , and one of things I've been recommended to try is to, take the Ramipril at night instead of in the morning. .....Does anyone take theirs at night and what is the effect?...........Thank you

I too suffer from extreme light headedness. Or stroke fatigue as the stroke sufferers call it. I am trying to take medication during the day as opposed to first thing. It is a lengthy process because I reckon it takes five weeks to edge out of my system.

I note that the numerous long covid patients have the same problem. And research is charging ahead for them. Maybe we will benefit from their research.

Sorry to hear you are suffering with lightheadedness I get vertigo which causes this

I do not take the same blood pressure tablet however I take mine at night was always told to take it then and I seem to have had no problems so I hope by making that change it will help you x

You have just described perfectly, not only a side effect of Ramipril but many other heart drugs. You have to remember that I am not medically trained but I have suffered this awful feeling as well as many others on here have reported.

You say that it has only just started with your change in medication, then like me it may go off after a week or so, if not I have heard of people changing it to night time use BUT only on the say so of their DR or specialist.

Its a horrible feeling and I hope that you get it sorted soon, it could also be a sign that the Ramipril is doing its job.

I had a similar feeling and my resting heart rate had dropped to 44 BPM. Doctor stopped by bisoprolol for a month to see if it sorted out the dizziness and heart rate. It has done that fine.

I have been doing my blood pressure twice a day for the trial month and it has been fine

Trebor5558, Ramipril lowers blood pressure and can cause light-headedness especially in the early days of taking it. This often settles with time. Taking ramipril at night is a recognized way of reducing lightheadedness. Also this effect depends on the dose of ramipril prescribed. Doctors often start ramipril at a low dose and then titrate it up over several days to weeks. You should certainly let your GP know of this effect and he may look at the dose. Thank you. Regards

I don't take it any more as it gave me an awful cough. I find all of the bp meds cause light headedness to some extent whether you take them in the morning or at night.

Hi, I was given my Ramipril at 6pm whilst in hospital whereas my other tablets (aspirin, bisoprolol,Isosorbide Mononitrate and Clodiprogrel) were taken in the morning with my statin taken at 9pm. I did however feel the same on occasion when back at work and a trip to hospital because feeling similar one day the cardiologist noticed something to do with my heart rate and put it down to Bisoprolol dose being to high and advised to drop the dose from 2.5 to 1.25. This did help a bit but my doctor eventually took me off Ramipril and put me on Losartin. This seemed to cure the problem and I was advised to take it at night or first thing in the morning, the only problem with Losartin is it has a half life of about 3hrs so theoretically after about 12hrs it is out of your system but Ramipril has a half life of about 13hrs so it is constantly in your system which is a good thing if it regulates your blood pressure.
