Light Headed

6 weeks on from having stent fitted and recovering well and back to playing sport. I am taking bisoprolol, clopidogel and ramiprim. My only problem is feeling somewhat light headed and dizzy at times and cannot drink alcohol as this makes it worse.

Anybody experienced similar?

Thanks

Hi Nuevo. That’ll be the Bisoprolol and Ramipril. They lower your heart rate and reduce your blood pressure and if you get up quickly you’ll feel dizzy. Alcohol also reduces blood pressure so that makes things worse. If you can live with the dizziness just stick with it as it gets better as you go along. The Doc will probably try to ‘up-titrate’ ie try to increase the dose as you get used to dizziness as the lowest heart rate and BP is best for us one stenters! As for drinking alcohol - I’m 3 years on and regret that this too becomes easier!!!

But if the dizziness is a problem and it’s there all the time (not just when getting up quickly) make an appointment with the Doc as they can change the dosage.

Hi Thatsunexpected,

Yes, I do monitor my own pulse and blood pressure and generally my pulse is between 48-52 and blood pressure around 112/67 in the morning’s. Maybe need to keep a log though.

Thanks

Yes I take both in the morning, so may be a good idea to recheck a few hours after.

Your numbers look quite low, how long did they keep you on bisoprolol?

I get lightheaded but my consultant said its the amount of water you drink. Need to drink at least 2L. Do you drink enough?

That’s interesting Thatsunexpected, it would be nice to get off them myself in the future.

That did cross my mind about drinking more water Shockedwithstent , as I don’t drink enough. I will give that a go from today.

Many thanks everyone for your help and input and good luck with your own recoveries.

I am on the same meds and when I go to bed I feel very dizzy when my head touches the pillow, it's like I have drunk too much wine, but I haven't had any, this happens every night.

Might be worthwhile getting checked for vertigo.

Sorry to jump in but can I ask did the Bisoprolol cause you any other issues ? I’m having a few issues and trying to rule out certain medication

Try taking your Ramipril in the evening?
