My dad is on some new beta-blockers, can’t remember the name but it begins with an ‘S’, and he suffers VT, is it possible that he is feeling lightheaded due to these tablets?

Yes, one of the known side-effects of beta-blockers is feeling tired, dizzy or lightheaded.

Here's a link to the NHS site on the subject:-

Hi Ec-Louise I went on Bisoprolol around 6 weeks ago for angina and was experiencing some lightheaded ness. I was on 10mg and went back to the doctor whom has reduced me to 5 mg. I am a bit better but can still get slightly lightheaded.

Hi there, the link from SOTF is great & I'd add that sometimes your body needs to get used to a medication so reactions can change, also lowering the dose can still give the benefits but without the negative side effects (I went from 2.5 bisopropol to 1.25 & am very happy now whereas on 2.5 I was a wreck :-). You may find that the Dr will talk to you about your dad too which may make you feel better

good luck

Beta Blockers can have a variety of side effects but there are a number of different types which affect your heart and lungs depending on the type.

I have been on Bisoprolol for approx a year and have tolerated it well but gave had a couple of ‘dizzy’ episodes. My GP feels that this is ok - benefits outweigh etc, which I tend to agree with. But i do have a cardiology appt next week so will check there too as it was the consultant who originally prescribed it. I also think I’ve read on here that sometimes it is only prescribed for 1 year post HA so will see what consultant says. I suggest you talk to your GP to see if you need to change dose or anything asap. Good luck.
