Hair loss

I have noticed that my hair is getting very thin on top - suspect due to medication - and stress. Has anyone else had this problem & could you get help?

Thank you

I began losing my hair on top and one spot in the back quickly at age 71 and 2 years later I was getting bad hurtful sores and it was Psoriasis and med creams get rid of it but it comes back.......

Dear Batty55

Sorry to hear of your problem and yes, hair loss can be down to some medication.

Your bio does not tell me if you are male or female, as drugs effect the sexes differently, down to the hormonal change that they can bring on.

You need to discuss this with your Dr or even ask your dispensing pharmacist who may be able to give you some answers.

If it is a hormone problem then there is something that can be done, other than that a good hairdresser will help you, there are many hair products that can help, thickening sprays etc.

I hope you find the answers you need, I think you will with a bit more digging.

Take care {yes I am quite bald}

Oh am female lol. It’s only since I’ve been on meds. I shall just have to stop being vain lol

Dear Batty55

I don't think your being vain, hair is very important to a lot of people. I hope that there is an answer for you.

Take care

Yes - life could be worse but at the time it’s very upsetting. X

Talk to your GP about it. There are tablets that can improve hair oss like fenesteride but they can have horrible side effects and are usually a last resort. It's most likely to be your medication. If your GP can pin down which one it is he may be able to change it.

Hi Betty , I have started losing hair since I started on loads of different meds since November when I had a Cardiac arrest and my heart stopped . I've been using Pantene Gro Strong shampoo and condotioner . It hasn't cured it but it's worth a try x

Hi Batty55, my husband started losing his hair when he was on a high dose of Metaformin for his diabetes, this is now controlled by diet so he is off the Metaformin now and his hair has grown back, hope you find a solution soon. Take care.

I will buy a wig if it gets too bad - just noticeable to be. Plus I am sure when I had my heart attacks the shock turned it grey!

Hi Batty55, a wig sounds good, no bad hair day's just hang on to it in the wind, ha ha.

I have recently been taken off Bisoprolol after 14 months. I lost a lot of my hair and later have now developed psoriasis. My hair is starting to grow back slowly but I’m told that psoriasis is an autoimmune condition and I’m now stuck with it. Good luck with everything.

Hi Winnebago. I am sorry to hear that you have psoriasis. I am sure that your GP could help with it. I have a friend who has that condition - I will when I catch up with her ask how she got rid of it! Take care.

Thank you - sorry slow to reply. I’ve had steroid creams and lotion for my head but it has limited use because it thins the skin. I’m now on medical type moisturising creams. Am told since it’s an autoimmune response it cannot be cured - only managed. It’s horrible- always seems worse in the evening when quite frankly I could scratch myself to death. I’ve looked at foods to avoid of course but it’s still persisting! Thank you anyway for your kind thoughts. Best wishes.

No need to apologise! My friend used Tgel & it cleared up in a few weeks……she also joined a psoriasis support group but she can’t remember the name. I hope you find a cure soon. X
