Hi all

For the 2nd year running my bowel test has come back as positive , I had a colonoscopy which was negative last year. Could it be the blood thinner (rivaroxin) causing blood in poo. I am also anaemic

Hello :-)

I have to go for a scan tomorrow as I had a positive stool test

I am on blood thinners but the strong one they have told me to stop for now and just take Aspirin so I suppose it could be a possibility

Of course you need to get checked out get the all clear and then talk with your Doctor about if this could be a possibility they may tweak your meds if they think it could be

Let us know how you get on :-) x

I had a very similar experience. Not helped by lockdown it took time. I too had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy, all prompted by low haemoglobin levels in routine blood test. There was then a big gap. My symptoms of tiredness in legs when exercising and rushing sound in ears got worse. Finally went private to get my ears looked at by specialist. (Only doctor I’ve physically visited apart from hospital.) he took one look said I looked ill and very anaemic. He wrote to GP who sent me for blood test. GP call ed me and sent me IMMEDIATELY to AandE. I was admitted and received 3 units of blood and one of iron. Subsequent endoscopy found ‘watermelon stomach’ and further treatment repaired the damage. Now very well. Get you haemoglobin levels checked, watch for symptoms especially nearly black poo and tiredness. Hassle GP.

Last year I was twice sent for bowel tests urgently. The first time I'd lost a lot of weight and developed bad constipation. Doc was worried about the weight loss. All was clear. Second time the faecal test showed a trace of blood. Once again after sigmoidoscopy all was clear. Recently had another faecal test for black stools. Again all clear. I've put it down to the fact that the soluble aspirin which was crucifying my stomach was changed to the coated type that works in the bowel and, because of the constipation, was staying there too long an causing slight bleeding. I'm back to the soluble ones. I have no proof but suspect that the trace of blood was a mild attack of diverticulitis.

Thank you QualipopI suspect it is the rivaroxin in my case , it’s also making me anaemic ,it’s been going on over a year now and I’d like to get it sorted
