Dapagliflozin

Following my Cardiology consult just before Christmas my cardiologist increased the dosage of Bisoprolol, changed my Simvastatin to an increased dose of Atorvastatin, but left my Ramipril as before. New addition to the regime is Dapagliflozin as I am borderline diabetic also. Do any of you take this and have you had any problems with it? I have not noticed any change yet as I have only been taking it for just over a week but any information would be a help.

What with aspirin, Metformin SR and omeprazole, sometimes I wonder if I rattle when I walk! oh and I forgot blue and brown inhalers for my Asthma caused by breathing in flour during my lifetime in the bakery trade. The joys of getting old!

I’ve been on Dapagliflozin for about 5 months now and developed a yeast infection (thrush) after a month or so. Perhaps also wanting to pee a bit more but that could be due to one of my other cocktail of tablets! Canesten cream helps re the infection + perhaps Cranberry tablets.

No dizziness but a few feelings of mild nausea which could be caused by some of my other meds or general condition. Overall, fine + only the yeast infection I can attribute to D’zin. Hope its benefits will outweigh its negatives!

I’ve been on it for over a year with no problems I’m aware of.

I’ve been on it for heart failure for ten months. It’s a diuretic so yes, increased urination is one of the effects. Other than that I’ve no problems.

I saw my Heart Failure Nurse in December and she added Dapagliflozin to my list of medications, she took me off Ramipril and replaced with Entresto, changed my Carvedilol from one 25 mg taken in the evening to 12.5 mg to take 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening I am on the highest dose of Atorvastatin. My monthly represcription is for 13 items (Heart and other health issues) and I also wonder if I rattle when I walk. I have been feeling unwell and off my food and nausea and my BP has been dropping into the 80's, kept feeling like I was going to pass out when I was stood up, so I phoned my GP who changed the Carvedilol to just one 12.5 mg to be taken in the evening. So to sum up with so many changes I do not know if the Dapagliflozin is anything to do with me feeling unwell. I am seeing the Heart Failure Nurse next Tuesday and hope she may have some answers. I hope that you do not suffer any side effects of the Dapagliflozin, I think we are all different as to what medications our bodies take to or not as the case may be. Best wishes. xx

Dapa can reduce your BP - I’m going to have a discussion with my cardiac nurse in a couple of weeks, but she wants me on the full dose of Bisoprolol (10mg, currently on 7.5mg) with a steady BP before she’ll even consider it.

My BP hovers around 105/80 - she says it needs to stay above 100 to even consider Dapa. You might want to bring your low BP and this drugs known side effects up to your cardiac nurse.

Let us know how you get on

Thank you so much for alerting me to this, have just checked out side effects and another one is Thrush which I have developed really bad vaginal itching since taking Dapa and having to urinate far more often than I used to. Added to my list for when I go on Tuesday. Thanks again.

Hi Geoff. I was also put on Dapa by my cardiologist as I had just tipped over into Type II Diabetes, but unfortunately I had to stop after a fortnight because of chronic back pain. It took several trips to an osteopath to get rid of that pain!

Hi Geoff. Most heart conditions are treated with drugs apart from the plumbing jobs (by pass surgery etc). I have been treated for some 15 years with various combinations of tablets. The only statin I could get on with was pravastatin which seems to be doing the job as my cholesterol is low. I have been on bisoprolol for some time, this affects the lining of my nose causing painful pimples this got worse when my dose was increased. I was recommended to treat this with Vaseline on a cotton bud which brings some relief. Think we all take Omeprazole to protect our stomachs. Its best to follow the advise of the medics keep asking questions when you can speak to someone and keep asking to speak to someone.
