DAPAGLIFLOZIN

After finally stopping canaglifozin due to side effects . Dapagliflozin has now been prescribed at a much lower dosage for my diabetes in its place, which I have been advised also works well for heart failure too. I had a HA which was a year ago 13th November. I am well now happy and I believe healthy even though am classed as having heart failure, LVSD, diabetes and have mitral valve regurgitation. At times I use GTN spray for the occasional chest pain but with all the meds I am on in general feel very healthy. I am interested to know what experience other people have on this drug. I am willing to try it but also anxious to the change as have had a rocky road with several of the meds that have already been prescribed for Heart failure.

Hi Shoshov,

Thanks for your reply, I am concerned about the thrush side of it all. My GP has also prescribed canestan with it, I guess in case I get thrush.

it is a bit of a pain and can really get you down but the drug itself does what it says on the tin. i just phone down to docs and get prescription when it flares. the tablet clears it almost instantly❤️

I have had doctors and HF nurses tell me this is a great drug for HF, trials have been good. It is hopefully going to be approved for use of HF by NICE in April. I don’t have diabetes so at the moment I can’t go on this.

Coincidentally, I was looking at this drug yesterday. Had never heard of it before. It seems to be effective in heart failure and CKD for both diabetic and non diabetic patients.

Unfortunately it depends where you are. Some get access to this, some don’t.

The Pumping Marvellous website has some information on the latest about this drug, might be worth looking at that. Hope it goes well! :)

Thank you 😊

I have a slightly different take on this drug. Although, I don’t doubt it’s cardio protective qualities I also feel it has to be administered & monitored very carefully. I was initiated on 10mg per day and increased to the maximum dose of 25mg per day, I also reduced my sugar intake at the same time. All seemed to be going great, particularly my blood sugar which stabilized almost overnight. However, I began to feel horrendous due to my ketones going through the roof, this lead to my blood becoming so acidic I ended up in ITU with Euglycemic Diabetic Ketoacidosis.
