I've been on Omeprazole for close on eight years and they have been effective.I had a HA and angioplasty 6 weeks ago and was put on a new cocktail of medicine, the indigestion was terrible.

My GP doubled my Omeprazole and the effect was minimal.

On Saturday afternoon I started on Lanzeprazole, although early days they do seem to be making things better and I have felt a lot more comfortable.

Oh good I am wanting to try those as omeprazole makes me feel nuseous

I've been.on omeprazole for many years with no problems. When I had my HA 14 weeks ago, I was allowed to stay on all my pain meds AND the omeprazole. I've since read that omeprazole should not be take with clopidogrel as it can lessen the effects of it?? Has anyone else heard this?? I asked my gp and she said it was OK to continue??

Yes it’s the only azole that you can’t take with clopidogrel but I don’t know what the reason is x

Looking at the inner information leaflet Doora it just says inform your doctor if you are taking clopidogrel

I didn't even know until I read it on this forum!? I'm still not entirely happy taking it now that i know!!??

Omeprazole reduces the effectiveness of Clopidogrel whereas Lansoprazole does not. I was changed to Lansoprazole when I was started on Clopidogrel post amputation.

Lansoprazole is also not good to be taken with clopidogrel!? My gp told me this a few days ago. Having never been on such a cocktail of different medications, it is becoming quite a revelation finding out exactly what you can and cannot take with certain meds, and why!!!

All PPIs affect Clopidogrel to a greater or lesser degree. The FDA, MHRA and EMA discourage use of Omeprazole and Esomeprazole in patients taking Clopidogrel.Based on data from pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies Pantoprazole is the least likely to interact, and Lansoprazole and Rabeprazole are also suitable alternatives.

Thanks everyone. My gp.us quite happy for me ro continue taking it, as is my cardiologist nurse and consultant.

That’s good my stomach is useless least thing it gets upset, 20 plus years is a long time to take them do you get regular blood tests I have been told will need one every year just to check there are no effects on organs kidneys etc

My GP has kidneys checked regularly, I do have blood tests for other clinics, I was tested Nov 2020 for tiredness, fatigue, was low B12, low Iron, low Vit D so I was dosed up for those.

I also have Chronic Asthma and Conn's syndrome (hyperaldosteronism) so I also have to keep an eye on my Potassium and Sodium levels

Oh wow I have never heard of Conns hope you are ok or as well as can be. Always something, I went for angiogram and they discovered a huge mass next to heart in chest had to have that removed was a malignant thymoma I had never heard of that or my thymus gland which it was attached too, no symptoms whatsoever. That and heart disease found at same time

Same thing, I had a bout of diverticulitis April 2019 and on having a CT scan follow up they found a benign adenoma on one of my adrenal glands, this was later confirmed to be the cause of Conn's which leads to high blood pressure, strokes & heart attack. I have been being treated for high blood pressure since 2000, I had an ultrasound scan 2005 which I was told I had a cyst on my kidney and that many people do have them, it was only having the CT scan that started further investigations, then I had my heart attack Aug 2019 which delayed investigations I was confirmed Conn's AVS March 2020 and put on the surgery list and then covid put everything on hold.

After my MI, amongst others they prescribed Lansoprazole. After 1 year, it was causing digestive problems, so changed to Famotidine.

Hi Richard, I used to take ranitidine until they were withdrawn and was just changed to ppi. I preferred the ranitidine had no problems with it
