Amlodipine make my legs swell so doc has given me water tablets. Can anyone tell me if I take one in the morning how long I will need to keep visiting the loo, ie when would it be safe to go out without fear of needing a loo.

How long is a piece of string - everyone is different and a lot may depend on the type & strength of the diuretic. I play University Challenge with mine as often it is a starter for 10 - trips to the loo that is - average time span is over approx 4 hours. I usually take mine at lunch time depending on what I am doing as often I can plan any time out with where the the loos are available.

At present that is not possible as my OH is rather poorly so have had to switch to taking half a dose first thing in the morning instead. Now only make 2 or 3 visits before being clear.

Thanks - that's helpful

Hi,

Are you still on the amlodipine? Just wondering if they can replace it with another medication rather than adding more medications to counteract side effects?

One dose of amlodipine made my ankles swell like balloons.

Consultant stitched me to a lower dose and the attacks returned so switched back

If the Amlodipine is for BP and angina there are other options. I ended up on isosorbide mononitrate for angina and lisinopril to lower BP. Personally I dislike tasking drugs to counteract the side effects of others. Just feels wrong to me!

Isosorbide didn't work so I had to switch back to amlodipine. I know what you mean but at the moment it keeps the attacks at bay

Diltiazem is another CCB used as an anti-anginal. I was on this for a while and odema was barely noticeable.

I always take my water water tablet before bed and sleep all through the night.

Depends on dosage but I take mine around 10am, just one furosemide. I'm fine to go out by 1pm but only go to the loo about 3 times beforethat. It takes about an hour to start working.
