Hi Hearties hope you are all well I am 30 years on from my first heart attacks and coronary artery bypass surgery, then in 2004 another heart attack followed by 2 stents fitted. 4 years ago aortic stenosis was picked up and has now become severe the plan was to fit a mechanical valve but following test the team have deemed this too risky and i am due a TAVI on Monday morning at 64 years young hopefully like a rubber ball i will bounce back and on with another challenge. good luck to you all on your heart journey.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Mick Jagger had a TAVI procedure at the start of the pandemic ans was basically fully recovered three months later.

Obviously yours is a different story but as he was a decade older it should give you encouragement!

I’m so impressed with your attitude!! I am just 82 but very fit and still( luckily ) very mobile. I am married, and still fly abroad for independent holidays abroad. However I am going in to a London hospital on Monday week for the TAVI. Does anyone know what sort of follow ups there are, and or rehabilitation sessions, and how long after, as I am looking to go abroad with my hubby hopefully in late March!

Good morning fellow rocking Grandpa (-: You are obviously made of robust stuff and bounced back before, sure this will be another success story. Uplifting to read your post and good luck. I had a stent in 2014 age 54 and recently diagnosed with early stage aortic stenosis. Having none of the lifestyle factory’s associated with early onset CHD and Upon reading an article on elevated lipoprotein (a) being a hereditary factor in causing stenosis in the circulatory system at my instance I was tested at a specialist lipid clinic and found to have the gene as approximately 20% of population do. Crazy that people with any stenosis issues aren’t routinely tested as they can pass the condition on and siblings can also be in blissful innocence. So post my test Cascade tearing was then deemed essential for my siblings and children and one of each also had the condition. They have each been put on statins as an early intervention to present future CVD. Again thanks for sharing and good luck Monday.😀

Thanks for replying and kind thoughts I also have been diagnosed with hyperlipidemia and hypercholesterolemia big words but as you say it's hereditary my children have been tested but my siblings didn't want to be tested, fortunately it appears to have missed them I wish you and your family all the best for the future

The TAVI procedure is brilliant. I felt a bit of a fraud when when friends were making solicitous enquiries about how I was afterwards as it sounds so major but you don't feel it is. I'm older than you too so you should be absolutely fine and be out q0uickly. Good luck.

Hi, Im 69 and had a transapical Tavi in December. I think this is more invasive thanthe entry via the groin version which I presume you are going to have. Either way the op and recovery is nothing compared to a bypass and recovery in my case was fairly rapid. I'm sure you will bounce back quickly, but do take it steady at first. Best wishes for Monday.

Thank you for your kind thoughts I believe they are going in via the groin hopefully I'll be back walking soon hope your recovery is complete

Hi you have had a lot of heart troubles! I am about ready for my 3rd Aortic Valve Replacement. Having TOE procedure on 20th. I asked a while back about Tavi being the next course of action and one Dr said YES! the other said NO, YOU ARE TOO YOUNG!! I am 62 in October so wondering what the actual requirements are for Tavi? I am pretty sick with Lung diseases so unsure they would even want to try Open Heart? Good luck though I would love to hear how it goes for you.
