Aortic stenosis and angina

Last night I thought I was having a heart attack and went to A&E on nhs 111/paramedic advice. It did ease off so clearly, I assume, wasn't a heart attack. I had bloods done, the results of which will be sent to the GP. I let them know I had to leave after 8 hours because others had been there 20 hours and I didn't have that in me, they did advise against it but said I'd be called to go back if it showed it was a heart attack. I don't think it will show that but based on the symptoms I think it was likely angina which I've never had before and it was truly horrible. I will of course speak to the GP but considering I was diagnosed with mild aortic stenosis would angina suggest it has progressed to moderate already?

I’m sorry to hear about your recent trip to the hospital. I don’t think I can really blame you for leaving, but I assume if you haven’t had a call back yet that everything seems reasonably okay?

I can’t really offer any advice in terms of the aortic stenosis. Really sorry.

Have you been offered a GTN spray for your angina?

No they didn't call back do that is good news. I fong know if it was angina but in the absence of a heart attack I'm left thinking that was the culprit.

Can you make an appointment with your GP or cardiologist to be assessed for angina? I think that would be a good next step. Even if it isn’t angina, they should investigate what is causing it.

I spoke to the gp yesterday, they are increasing my ramipril because my bp has reverted to starting level. The A&E bloods didn't suggest an event so dr thinks just raised bp. When I was having the whatever it was my home monitor said 80 something over 70 something but was back to normal for me by time I got to A&E. I'm having bloods and ecg monday. I had my first echo feb this year, the next one will be jan 2026, not really happy about such a long time between tbh.

Aw so sorry to hear! So many of us ending up at A&E this week this heat is definitely doing a number on us. It's long wait aswell which definitely puts you off going glad you went and got checked. Hope your feeling better 😢. I had to go on Monday because I thought I was having a heart attack glad I went though but yeah the waiting was awful I got there at 9.15 and got home at 2.47! Yep long night. I noticed you said you have mild aortic stenosis and angina? Have you contacted your cardiologist and told them about your recent visit to hospital, I did and they have arranged few routine tests so might be worth doing just to get peace of mind. You might need an echo to check progression of aortic stenosis, mine is moderate and I have severe aortic regurgitation aswell so definitely need peace of mind from my echo next month. Oh dear, sorry to hear of your experience. 😢 Was it agina in your case? Maybe I just didn't take enough care to stay hydrated, and it was a situation of my heart getting distressed. I'll let gp know and they'll prob arrange another ecg and maybe echo. My blood pressure hasn't really budged on the ramipril starting dose either so I think that will need reviewing. I still don't know what coursed it the heat didn't help I was being careful to keep hydrated though I remember I had drank alot that day and eaten well, been having a few dizzy spells both while I've been in doors so maybe not the heat?? Mine wasn't angina. Good well done it's good to keep them in the loop just in case the aortic stenosis has progressed x oh maybe you need a higher dose of ramipiril? I think that might be my problem might need an increase in my verapamil maybe?? Hope your able to arrange those tests I got mine through so quickly I was so shocked x

Yes, my bp is back to what it was when I started the 2.5mg ramipril so not doing the job, waiting for the dr to call me today. If it wasn't a heart attack or angina with , what did they say it was, symptom of raised blood pressure? x

Aw that's good BP is back to normal. They don't know what it was probably wasn't anything 🤷‍♀️😌. X

Hi Alvida I have just had my aortic valve replaced My symptoms when it was severe was very breathless very very tired a few sudden faints and some pain Hopefully that may help you to decide what it was but you do need to see your GP to discuss Good luck and I hope all is well and it is just a blip

Hi I was lucky enough to be suitable for TAVI which is so much better for recovery time .The op was fine The only setback I have had was six weeks after surgery just when I was feeling a lot better my blood pressure went wild shooting up and ened up in hospital for 2 days but they said it was a good sign new valve was working well and blood pressure was just trying to find its new level . Am now on new med which seems to be working . Everyone seems to have one setback on road to recovery which ever op they have but we all come through it

Oh, really glad you are doing well. Sorry for all the questions, I was only diagnosed feb this year so I'm just trying to figure ot how things will likely go, but I know all our stories are different.

Hi, sorry to read about your issues at the hospital, I think that most of us will have experienced similar long waits. When I asked my GP if I could have an x ray because of bad chest pain that had gone on for several months, he said 'NO what do you expect your 80, It will be Arthritis in your ribs'. Some months later I was diagnosed with Angina while on a cruise holiday, would this have been picked up earlier had I been given an x ray? It looks as though your not being called in to discuss your results, may be a sign that all is not as bad as you thought. Keep smiling,

Your doctor didn't do right by you at all, very sad. Glad you got it diagnosed. My gp had the results back from a&e and it wasn't angina. I need to manage my stress better, I'd got upset earlier that day, and I realised I've not overhauled my lifestyle adequately, so it was a warning sign I will take notice of. It sounds a bit daft maybe but after that happened I have more respect for my heart and see it as my duty to do right by it.

I am glad that you didn't have Angina, and I hope that eventually you will get it sorted out. My lifestile has changed because of that diagnosis. I now walk at a slower pace,I am careful when climbing the stairs and even more so when coming down. When I stand up, I take a few seconds before I can move, if I don't then back comes the chest pain and out comes the spray. All the very best for the futiure,
