Hi All My doctor rang and said I should take AA because I have taken 7 five day courses of Prednisolone in a year. I have a rescue pack of steroids and antibiotics that I every time I have a flare up of my COPD. I am wondering if any knows of a alternative or even a natural one please ?

Hi Wbic many thanks for your quick reply. The Doctor did not mention a bone density scan it was never offered. I am not sure how to go about to get one or if you will be able to in these horrible COVID times ?

Hi Gladys, I have bee on Prednisolone for about 4 years now (ranging from my current 13mg per day to 60!!) For the first two and a half years I wasn’t on AA, just using Adcal. However, due to long term use and high dose I was recommended to use AA. If you are only on short term doses of Prednisolone it might be worth asking if you can just take Adcal (or permanently take Adcal). Is there a particular reason you don’t want to take AA?

I would also recommend lots of body weight exercise (walking, jogging etc) to help maintain bone density.

Hi jcborden thanks for your kind reply. I did take 1 70mg of AA yesterday and woke up with a taut itchy face and neck which came up with blotches. The Doctor says to take it again in 2 weeks to see if the same thing happens, but has given me a short supply of calcium and Vit D.

Hi wbiC , thanks for your kind reply. I have taken 7 five days courses of 40mg a day in the 2020. I took one 70 mg of AA yesterday and woke up with a taut itchy face and neck. I managed to speak to a Doctor who said it was maybe a rare reaction and wanted me to take it again in 2 weeks to see if the same thing happened.

Thanks I am still very itchy and sore face and neck. Doctor asked me to send photos which I have done this morning but I am not keen to have this again. So kind of you for your input.

Hi Gladys

My wife tripped over our grandson and broke her wrist an open fracture which was bleeding. After quite a lot of surgery to put in pins and then a skin graft to cover the site., she was told a Bone Density scan was needed, this was done and AA was prescribed. To cut a long story short after 5 years of a Religious Saturday Morning Ritual she was re scanned and the Doctor told her to stop AA, she still takes Calceos 500mg twice a day chewable tablets. Looking at the packet It says Calcium and Vitamin D supplement hope that helps. If I remember properly after taking AA she had to sit down and be still for 30 minutes !!!

Hi Prad47 Many thanks for your kind reply. Hope your wife is doing well now. I am not sure I want to take AA again after a bad reaction and am going to try Calceos tablets.
