I was on both these drugs and had side effects so got changed to Losartan and Atorvastatin, which have been fine. Have a chat with your GP as there are plenty of alternatives.

Hello :-)

I take so many meds that mess with my stomach some there are alternatives you can try and as Fredders has said I would speak with your Doctor and see what else they maybe able to prescribe that might suit you better

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Hello :-)

I know it is awful when you are getting side effects I am having to take something at the moment which is playing havoc with my stomach but these were only for a week

You never know in 2 weeks things can change you might all of a sudden settle on these it can take a while for us to adjust but if not then you still have time to get something else before your Granddaughters Graduation if you really cannot tolerate them maybe make an earlier appointment and just tell them you cannot tolerate them any longer you need to try something else

Let us know how you get on :-) x

This is not an instruction or advice, it is how i would react if i were in your situation:

in your position i would stop taking the statin (Simvastin) until after the important event - if i had survived my whole life without it and was taking a medication which caused side effects which affected my quality of life i would be weighing up the costs and benefits to me of taking it - in the longer term there are plenty of alternatives available and a doctor can not expect anyone to take stick to a course of treatment with such negative side effects

This is advice: a pharmacist may be able to suggest alternatives with fewer side effects

I have been on 80 mg Atorvastatin for several years now and never had a problem. I was on Ramipril but this was changed to Entresto 24mg/26mg 18 months ago. With Ramipril I did have the irritating cough. We are all different as to what side effects we get. Best to speak to GP.

I've never had an issue with either Simvastatin or Ramipril as far as my stomach is concerned, but plenty of side effects from both. Thankfully there are alternatives to both.Initially my GP did prescribe Lansoprazole, but that caused problems in itself, as indeed did the Omeprazole he changed it to. PPIs are now on my blacklist. Since then, I've always taken my medication (including soluable aspirin) with food and followed it up with a cup of tea and have had no problems.

Don't know about rampiril, but my statins changed to pravastatin, supposed to be less toxic , and doesn't have the same risk of diabetes as other statins

Hi there boredom,I'm sure some of us are in different medication to you but as we are not allowed to give medical advice then the suggestion would be to speak to your GP. Sorry if that is unhelpful . We could tell you what works for us but as we are all different it may not work for you!? I take atorvastatin and I am fine with it but I know a lot of people who have awful joint pain with it. I hope you find something that you can stomach.....pardon the pun!!

I’m on Atorvastatin 80. I’m not sure whether it’s elevated my blood sugar to pre-diabetic level ( mentioned in the patient’s leaflet) or whether it’s contributed to leg pain. I think all of the statins produce side-effects. Is is a question of trial and error? Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Thanks you all 4 the replies your all very helpful will ask GP about stopping stopping simvastin for the time being and try to sort something out with him about changing the rampiril. Can't keep this up as unable to eat properly and losing weight which I can't really afford to.

Hi boredom. I switched my Atorvastatin for a very low dose of Rosuvastatin, and the Ramipril for Candesartan. There are plenty of alternatives out there. Good luck finding ones that suit you. xx
