I have been suffering from this internal shivering issue since February this year.
End of February at the gym I hurt my back, since then I started to get a flutter/vibration in my stomach.
After a month the flutters travelling around my body e.g. shoulder, thighs and lower stomach, GP prescribed Quinine Sulphate which I took for a month after doing a blood test and found my Vitamin D needs to be increased but still no major concern.
During the night I wake up because of the flutter/vibration, then the GP prescribed me Gabapentin which I had stopped taking about 2 months after.
The flutter/vibration is constantly there and does not allow me to sleep the complete night.
The flutters/vibration are not externally visible it is all internal, but my husband has felt it when he has placed his hands on my stomach.
I have seen a neurologist and had done a complete MRI scan where he ruled our MS and Parkinson. He had found some tension in the neck and shoulder areas and recommended physiotherapy which I am currently doing. He was the one who suggested not to take Gabapentin and also cleared me from any issues.
I have also speaking to a gastrologist as the issue started within the stomach area, he has conducted a blood test and stool test and found no issues and also cleared me. He suggested I take Amitriptyline 10mg which has helped me sleep 5 out of 7 nights (an improvement).
After reading some forums I did a private throid test which T3 and T4 test results are within the normal range.
After explaining to this to my GP they recommend to get a second opinion and get a nerve survey done. Which I went to a secondary Neurologist and still there does not seem to be an issue.
Really quite stuck to where to go now. As I do not feel any better than what I did when this started. I have recently started to feel a quite strong pulsating feeling in my arms and legs and feel my heart pounding a bit more.
Please help with any suggestions or avenues to looking into.
Much appreciated

Hi, unfortunately I have to agree with your GP and the tests that have been done, as a random internet stranger, i would concur it is nerve pain. But... I would hazard a guess at a trapped nerve (impinged) since it comes and goes - hence why an MRI etc wont pick it up. Did they talk about sciatica and/or degenerative discs or a prolapse somewhere? From a non-medical point of view I would recommend "light" Pilates or yoga to stretch the spine and associated nerve paths. Plenty of free videos on youtoob to do at home. Gabapentin does/can take large amounts (3,500mg per day) HTH
Sounds like a nerve. Could be from a stress response from too much force working out a stop in medication that needed to be tapered off or a stress response from some event in your life. I believe this will eventually go away. It may take a couple of months. Try exercises in the area where it is vibrating. TRE exercises make the body purposely Tremble in that area. Also try progressive relaxation techniques on YouTube therapy in a nutshell. Don’t ignore the feeling listen to it and work with it with exercises. Also check your diet your body needs magnesium iron and many more vitamins just keep a balanced diet
Since this started after a gym session when you hurt your back, my first thought was a nerve setting off muscular spasms. It may be localised with an effect over a larger area. As to remedy, the suggestions that have been made seem good to me - moderate exercise and relaxation. Try to de-stress whenever possible. I have had localised muscular spasms, but nothing like the extent you describe and the issue has always gone away after a week or so.
I wonder if your getting bouts of an arrhythmia. Something like PVC's/PAC's. Perhaps as you can't feel it or relate to it, this is how it's manifesting? Failing that, highly probably a drug effect? IMO.
Hi Tina. I have had a similar thing on numerous occasions. My GP puts everything down to anxiety but I think mine were caused by nerve inflammation in my abdomen & chest. It went away eventually but it had me worried (M.S etc). I hope yours gets sorted soon.
Sounds exactly like me. Mine is caused by a badly damaged nerve in my spine. It can even make my eyes wobble and I see black splodges. NO damage to eyes, just the nerve making the fluid clump together
I have a similar problem with tremors in chest and down arms to hands bp and pulse fine. Wakes me up about 4am ish every morning and continues until I give up and get up !! . I recon its side effect from one of the many meds I take but gp telling me anxiety !!! She says it will go !! Hope so cos not getting much sleep Hope you solve yours
