Has anyone been given any advice on taking pain relieving Aspirin while also taking 75mg as an anti-coagulant? I know it is a big no-no while on dual medication such as combined Aspirin/Clopedogrel due to it making the blood too thin, but once we are just on 75mg Aspirin for example, does the additional 300mg pain relief tablet cause problems? Surely taking 2 x 300mg for pain relief makes the 75mg fairly irrelevant and poses no more threat than anyone else would have? The reason I ask is that the paracetomol that I have been taking for the usual aches do absolutely nothing for me, I always used to take Anadin Extra for headache and such before the "event".

Taking Aspirin with Aspirin
I think I would be asking my pharmacist, they are better than GP for things like this + they know what meds you're on.
Yeah must say I had forgotten they could help I have to pick up my 2 months worth soon I will ask them.
When I had a tooth problem I spoke to the pharmacist and got Dispirin Extra (aspirin and paracetamol). The dual action worked a treat whereas paracetamol alone was pretty useless.
Was this while on 75mg Aspirin daily?
Yes, been in it for years - initially for PAD (peripheral arterial disease).
Thank you MichaelJH for putting the abbreviations into words, it helps idiots like me who don't know what all of these things are.
No worries.. I try to explain an abbreviation the first time I use in in a reply. About a year ago I was caught out here by a TLA (three letter abbreviation) when I responding to its common use when the poster meant something rarer. Worst was over 20 years ago when a project manager put three TLAs together to form a new TLA that meant nothing to anybody else.
All I can say is my sister in law had a brain bleed last year which she was told was due to taking too much aspirin -300 mg per day for many years. I suggest you quiz your GP/pharmacist about this. Good luck!
Very interesting question and replies! I take one 300mg aspirin with my Bisoprolol 1.25mg every morning, and have been advised by GP, cardiologist, and chemist taking the occasional 600mg for pain relief (2x300mg tabs) should be fine as long as I keep up with the monitoring for aspirin use ('keep alert' for symptoms plus twice a year blood tests).
It's a shocking amount but apparently I have a high tolerance - been on 300mg for decades (but the beta blocker is 'new' - just started that a year ago) with no problems. And I'm very careful to take that aspirin with a large amount of water - no sip and swallow, I gulp down at least half a glass of water every time I use aspirin.
Everyone is different and it's best to talk to the medics, and the chemist before using aspirin in any amount for pain relief if on a regular low-dose aspirin for heart conditions.
Yeah sounds good to me. If I wake up with the occasional beer fuzz I just drop the 75mg and go for the 600mg. That'l be why I seem to have all these spare aspirins rattling around..........
Made me laugh - well done!
I also used to take Anadin Extra for headaches, but was told by a hospital cardiologist that I should only take paracetamol as I’m on both daily aspirin and Clopidogrel for life - annoying as, like you, I don’t find paracetamol alone as effective.
My Cardiologist took me off Clopidogal because he said that they should only be used for 12 months at a time then a 12 months rest from them and so on .I'm on Aspirin, Amlodipine Monomil XL, and Bisoprolol each day and I also use my Trinitrate spray if and when the pain gets bad.
Paracetamol has no affect on me at all.
That's interesting - I hadn't heard of the 12 months on/12 months off regime before. My carotid arteries are 90% blocked and they are reluctant to operate, so I have to take the blood thinners to reduce the risk of stroke. Last year, the vascular department told me I needn't bother with aspirin if I took Clopidogrel, but at my next cardiac check-up, they were very cross and told me I must take aspirin AND Clopidogrel for the rest of my life, no matter what the vascular people said!
I know, when one tells you the opposite to the other, you don't know what to do for the best.
I've got 2 Heart Valves that aren't working properly. But they can't find a Surgeon that will do the Valve replacement because I wouldn't survive it .I also have Angina , Asthma and COPD.
My Cardiologist told me to stay with the Asprin, but my Gastroenterologist told me not to take them. 🤔.
I'm awaiting Abdominal Surgery as soon as things are more or less normal. So I haven't taken any Aspirin for about 6 week's.
I'm so sorry to hear about your heart valves. It's a horrible feeling when they tell you it's too dangerous to operate, isn't it? I decided that such a small dosage of aspirin probably wouldn't make too much difference to me either way, but I can understand they'd take you off them if you've got surgery pending, as it would interfere with your blood clotting. I do hope all goes well with the op.
ps I take it with porridge
