Aspirin causing bruising?

I've been on 75mg of Dispersible Aspirin since before my Open Heart Surgery along with other medication. I'm finding now that I bruise really easily and quite badly for minor reasons. My GP thinks it may be the Aspirin. I've got a phone consultation /follow up with my Cardiologist this week and I'm going to mention it. Does anyone else get this problem with aspirin.

Hello cjbroon

I'm on 75mg of Dispersible Aspirin, and also suffer some bruising, It was much worse when I was on Ticagrelor and Aspirin, then I was continually bruised and frequently had no idea of how or when I'd bumped myself to cause such bruises.

It's much better with just taking Aspirin, but it still happens after gardening and the like.

I had a minor twinge in my right arm last week playing golf. Within a day my arm looked like someone had hit me with a baseball bat. It was bruised the whole way down the inside. Dr couldn't believe how badly it had bruised.

Sorry to hear that, it does sound a somewhat extreme reaction, hopefully the consultant will be able to shed some light on why it's that bad.

Bruising all the way down the inside of an arm can also be caused by a dislocated biceps - I know this as I dislocated mine four (nearly five now) years ago. You might want to ask about that possibility rather than it being the very low dose aspiring. (although as Spirit mentions, the combination of meds can also be responsible).

The bruising was beyond shocking, so was the pain - I freely admit to being something of a lady whimp about pain, though. Reportedly the pain from a dislocated biceps is excruciating (trust me) but there are some reports from very fit men with high pain tolerance the pain was 'twinge' like and almost momentary with minor residual ache even after the event and during recovery. You write you 'felt a twinge' swinging your golf club - do you have an exceptionally high pain tolerance and enjoy a higher level of fitness?

It was a very minor twinge and a bit of stiffness a couple of hours later. GP fully examined my arm and found nothing that would have caused my arm to bruise that badly. She took bloods and said that the only other reason I bruise so badly could be the Aspirin. Funnily enough I was tying my shoelaces yesterday and again a very slight twinge and my middle finger looks as if its been hit with a hammer. I can only surmise its the Aspirin.

It doesn't cause any other side effects other than it looks really bad when I'm out and about and it seems to happen for really minor bumps and twinges.

I bruise quite easily on 75mg aspirin. However, when I was on ticagralor after my stents my GP thought that I was subject to domestic abuse - I wasn't - there were huge bruises I hadn't even really noticed! Clopidogrel also did that to me. Are you on either of those?

No just Aspirin, my other medication is bisoprolol, losartan and Artovastatin

I'm not on aspirin but take a blood thinner which I know makes me bruise more easily. Just a thought, have you had a recent full count blood test? A couple of years ago, I was bruising and couldn't remember bumping myself. Turns out that I was extremely anaemic!

GP took my blood but they haven't got back to me yet.

Hi, like SpiritoftheFloyd I am on 75mg Dispersible Aspirin after my heart surgery, I only need to have an itch and after the smallest of scratches I suffer bruising, Now if I do bump into anything it’s as if I have been really knocked about 😂

Oh yes; my hands are horrific. The slightest bump causes black bruises. I also find that instead of just causing a bruise a bump will tear the skin. I just caught my hand slightly on the door handle and it ripped a piece of skin off. It's nowherenear as bad as when I was on tigacgrelor but still looks a mess.
