My husbands Dr & cardiologist both think that's low and his cardiologist is considering pacing him at 50.

Mine is 50 at times relax it's lower walking it goes up so alright .

I'll call my gp

My husband has been having pauses between beats, there could be a number of reasons for it. If you're experiencing pauses and it's a recent issue you should notify your medical team & also tell them of your low heart rate.

How are you measuring your pulse I really think you need yourself checked.

In general, the lower the heart rate the more likely ectopic beats, I found that the lower the heart rate the more noticeable the ectopic beats became. At high rate , 70 and above, they were not noticeable at all. I would wonder why you are on bis when your heart rate is already low. Candesartan and bis is often used when cardiomyopathy or heart failure is suspected. However treatment is directly related to symptoms. So one person may have treatment when hr is 50 with symptoms and another, below 50 . with no symptoms will have less aggressive treatment.

These are all questions for your cardiologist.

in reply to pablojack

I had stents.and high blood pressure

It's working iv had this miss beat for many years normally potassium but that's been alright although need a recheck but how with no surgery open.

Normally the ectopic call it that goes but longer and doesn't help me checking it by the method of finger on pulse I use a

Omero BP monitor that tells me pulse 44 to 50

Thankyou

Monitors are not always accurate. We were monitoring my husbands HR with a blood pressure monitor given to us by his nurse. This showed his HR rate to be in the 70's so was totally surprised when cardiologist said his HR was low. We've since been taking it by fingers on pulse & it's usually mid 40's to mid 50's, occasionally it's gone into the 60's & briefly it went to 40. So for true accuracy you should take it manually plus I don't believe the monitors pick up missed heart beats.

in reply to Lezzers

Your right actually thing is my miss beat normally goes but longer this time but also I get worried constantly checking .

I'll need to go and get electrolytes checked potassium was 3.7 but had low platelets I take clopidogrel

Till July my surgery been closed but ill call them need to recheck

I have an oximeter , yesterday I had 98spo2 and 32 bpm I went to my nephew who is also my cardiologist.

My pulse was 58 and he told me that the pressure gauges and oximeters are detuned by the arrhythmia. Don't worry and call your cardiologist .

I’m on 5mg bisoprolol since HA start of March. BP good and heart rates much lower than before, down to 52 resting lowest. I’m now getting rushes due to what I can now trace to missed beats by checking my pulse manually (fingers on wrist). Seeing GP about it early next week, spoke to him and no great concern since I have no pain or missed beat sensation when going about my business or doing physio, I notice it when resting.

I would be interested in knowing what your GP says about it, if you don't mind. My husbands heart beat has been very strange for a few weeks now.

Thank you. The Dr has written to my husbands cardiologist for advice. He would normally be having his usual check up in June but don't know if that's going ahead and we don't really want this new issue delayed.

Hi Lezzers

Been to docs, of course all normal when I was there. He suggested a 24hr monitor but as they don’t have them in our small rural surgery he would have to call one up from a hospital and because my pulse isn’t racing and I’m in no pain it’s unlikely they’ll prioritise a monitor for me just now (because of resources being reallocated due to Covid). We agreed I’d give it a couple of weeks and see what happens (it’s only been happening for a couple of weeks) and if it persists or gets worse will have more grounds to monitor. So no progress, really just reassurance that it’s nothing to worry about.

Thank you for letting me know, I do hate all the hanging about & the unknown around it all. We've been told my husbands issue has been handed to Papworth to deal with, so will ring them in a week to see where we're at. He had to go to surgery today for ecg which we got a copy of. We've also now got his recent echo, just need someone to interpret it all!!

If you're concerned, I would push for the monitor.

I'm on bisoprolol and Candestartan for heart failure and ectopic heart beats. My pulse is low, sometimes below 30 but mainly no lower than 40. I'm on 7.5mg of bisoprolol at the moment to try and even out the ectopic beats. Cardiologist wants me on 10mg but taking it slowly because of low pulse. So, my understanding is the medication is there to address irregular heart rhythm rather than causing it?

In my case the bisoprolol was causing the pauses ,The cardiologist stopped it and they disappear

Most heart medication can also cause arrhythmia and that is why one should never read the not so common symptoms and rare symptoms on the pamphlet

.

Make sure with the cardiologist that your heartbeat of 30 odd is not total heart block.

My cardiologist took me off beta blocka because my rate went below 50 at times. At this rate, the missed beats were much more prominent.

Hello

Cardiologist dropped Bisoprolol to 7.5mg ( from 10mg ) when Heart Rate fell to 33 bpm and pauses could last for 3 seconds. Since dropping to 7.5mg Pauses have gone and pulse is around the 60 to 65 so increased to 10mg again pulse still 60 to 65 on average.

Pulse checking is fraught with problems I was told by a Cardio Nurse that if someone is having Ectopic beats a BP machine has difficulty with accurate readings, that's why she said if it is odd we check manually.

Next Heart Failure Nurse said always check manual if your BP machine is giving an unusual reading.

She also said check it in your neck rather than wrist because if you have had an angiogram/angioplasty through your wrist it can affect your pulse. I know this is correct because sometimes if I check my wrist, my pulse kind of disappears but I know it hasn't stopped I Hope.

Would be interesting to see if anyone else has this with wrist pulse checking.

Stay Alert Stay Well

Back on 10mg Bisoprolol and now on Entresto Ectopic Beats have disappeared HR 65 this morning . I don't know how Entresto and Bisoprolol work together but I work on the basis it must be OK or I wouldn't be on them both !!

I take bisopralol and was started on1.25mg. As, since my bypass, I get AF which, unusually, I can feel very clearly and makes me anxious I was advised to increase the bisopralol to 2.5 mg once a day as it may help the AF. It does seem to have helped but my resting heart rate has slowed to between 48 and 51. I do also get the some jumping or missing of beats occasionally but have suffered from ectopic beats in the past. I told my GP and he wasn't over concerned and was happy to leave the bisopralol for now as if the AF worsens again it could make me anxious. It’s down for review shortly so will see GP again when things improve from pandemic.

in reply to Trog1

Thankyou I'm on 2.5 bisoprolol also candesartan and isosorbide nitrate

All can cause this .

Iv had the ectopic for years but now iv had a stents it s concern they usually go I also find stress .seems to cause

When relax don't notice

I'm having electrolytes checked

Hi.I had a quadruple bypass nearly 4 years ago and over the last year have developed AF.

I was started on Bisoporol 1.25mg (even though I have a low heart rate of around 45 when resting) which seemed to help but after two recent bouts of AF this was increased to 2.5mg.I am due for an ablation in the next few months depending on how the situation is regarding Covid.

If you’re relying on a BP monitor for your pulse measurement then it won’t pick up all those little ectopics so it may well be in the 50/60’s?

As far as the pauses, I’m on bisoprolol 5mg for Afib and highly symptomatic PAC’s.

If I raise my heart rate through exercise for the first few minutes and until it settles, my heart is all over the place, PVC’s, PAC’s and even a few individual long QRS waves.

Once I get to around 100bpm it regulates to a perfect NSR. Until that is, I stop exercising. Then when everything starts to “settle down”, my heart goes through the same crazy pattern again.

When I’m at rest and then I get lots of different ectopics but can’t feel them much due to the bisoprolol effects.

Incidentally, if I cut down my dosage, after a few days my heart rate will raise and become a more and more normal rhythm and if I stop taking the pills, my heart rate will be absolute fine with zero ectopics or other odd beats for anything up to a year or more!!!

Then as if by magic, one day the ectopics start up again, get progressively worse, then I start getting Afib and the cycle is complete and I have to start the bisoprolol again.

This “cycle” has been going on now for around ten years since I had a PVI ablation done.

I believe my heart is remodelling itself whilst on bisoprolol, then re-remodelling while off them? Only real explanation I can come up with.

My Electrophysiologist used to say to me “don’t worry about it” or “yes, what a pain isn’t it”? In other words hurry up and get off my books. Haven’t seen anyone at all since 2 years after the ablation, except local GP’s here in UK. And they’re about as useful as a wax saucepan.

Yes I can agree on the doctors

Although initially they were alright.

I think mine could be electrolytes

I also have been drinking more water that seems to be improving it .

3 of my tablets can cause this to play up
