Hi Blueberrylover
When do you notice this elevation in heart rate? You could be describing something known as ectopic beats. I have them on a regular basis, sometimes more than normal. Ectopic beats are considered benign. Unless accompanied by symptoms such as sweating, breathlessness, dizziness, and chest pain for example, they are not considered life threatening.

Making some lifestyle changes can help reduce ectopics such as reducing smoking, alcohol intake, and stress for example.
If they have become bothersome, I would consult your GP.
All the best.

my mother has exactly that. She has had a fab for sometime but her dr said it was sick sinus syndrome and needs a pacemaker. She declined this and just lives with it but it worries me. See yr dr bless ya, it’s not right🦊x
Jan, when you joined the forum you said that your GP had examined you and said that your heart was "beating strangely ". You were due to have an ECG on 3rd July. Did your GP explain the results of the ECG to you?
Best wishes,
Paul
I'm sorry I can't answer your question fully, however my pulse rate is always over one hundred and I wore an ECG monitor for a month and my cardiologist told me despite my breathlessness I was in sinus rhythm and he was not concerned. When I asked a friend who has very high blood pressure her GP pharmacist prescribed her medication to slow her pulse rate down, again we're all different. I don't get concerned over my high pulse rate as my cardiologist and GP don't seen concerned either, as for your pulse rate going down I too would speak to my GP regarding this.
Hi. I've just had similar out of the blue. I'd randomly checked my pulse and 111 sent an ambulance. Their ecg showed my pulse was jumping between low 30s & 80s. Despite being on a cardio drip for 2 days & no stabilising they gave me a Pacemaker. They said sinus nodes out of rhythm & 2:1 heart block. I'd been having increasing breathlessness on exercise & that day had been very bad. Does seem common amongst ex-elite endurance athletes, but still came as a shock as to most people I am the fittest, healthiest person they know. Unfortunately hereditary in my case. Hope you get it sorted.
Could be bradytachy, could be SVTs, sinus rhythm, LBBB etc so get it checked as you will not get a definitive answer here.
rapid change of pulse rate is not unusual how are you checking your pulse rate? I ask because checking it the old way, by feeling or listening to your pulse and counting the beats for a period is the most accurate way to tell the rate, regularity and strength - using a digital/electronis device can give a different reading because is does not count each beat - some devices measure the gap between beats at intervals, this give very high or low rates if you have irregular beats
also your pulse rate increases rapidly with activity, my own resting pulse of around 50 quickly goes up to 100+ when i am walking
I also found that when checking my pulse on a pulse oximeter on my finger. It's because when you have ectopic beats the device tries to take two numbers as there's a high and a low. Rapid response told me the device can't take normal reading of heart rate in the middle of all that.
BTW..try this: when you get that reading stretch your arms up above your head ..a reallygood stretch like when you wake up in the morning and the number returns to normal. Works for me...try it. Seems in my case my heart is irritated by my posture. After having a left hip replacement my back has straightened and I no longer seem to get the ectopics and bizarre readings.
Try stretches.
All the time, mines like a yo yo up and down, worse in the mornings, and evenings when I get tired have to go to bed early
