I have been on and off propranolol (Inderal) for many years without any problems. They are not effective for anxiety at all as my doctor told me. I took Diazepam for that.

I suggest you take your blood pressure and heart rate to see if they are too low.

Propranolol lowers heart rate by about 10 beats if on normal strengh. It has some effect on lowering blood pressure but not by much and this is why it is normally taken with another BP drug. Maybe the effect is stronger for your system.

We cannot advise you what to do about your medication. That is your GP's job.

We can tell you if your BP or HR is too low however and suggest you get it sorted with your GP.

What is your BP and HR?

I’m on those tablets at a low dose 1.5 mg a day to help with sudden onset of palpations.

Hi Nathan,

You should speak to your doctor about it.

I have been taking them when I know I'm going to be in a situation that makes me feel very anxious and have been doing this for many years. I go for months not taking it but also go through periods where I take them every other week. I am careful not to take them too often though as I feel that the dosage would have to be increased for them to have the same effect. I have found them to be very effective for treating the physical sides which has been great for me. I generally only take one 10mg or sometimes two 10mg tablets which has really helped me.

Speak to your doctor about the side effects you've had and see what their advice is.

I would not take that drug. Suffered with withdrawal symptoms.

I am on propanolol 10mg twice a day for palpitations due to high blood pressure. They haven't given me any chest pain, just cold hands.Do you have any heart related conditions like palpitations or missed beats?Breathlessness is a side effect for some but together with chest pain needs to be checked out.Talk to your GP.
