Some advice needed - Echocardiogram after 2 years

Hi there, I’m new to this forum and was after some advice if possible (hope I have posted in the right place) I had a Echocardiogram and 24hr ecg 2 years ago after an abnormal ecg at my doctors. At the time they said everything seemed fine but my heart looked more like someone in their 50’s (not 30’s) and no treatment needed etc. I have since had 2 ecgs (due to panic attacks) and a chest X-ray and they were fine. My question is, iv been sent for an echocardiogram again, is this routine to be sent for a echocardiogram after 2 years? Should I be worried? I also have a history of bodybuilding and using bodybuilding drugs in my past. I’m concerned as to why I’m being sent for another Echocardiogram if everything was “fine”

Thanks In Advance for any advice And apologised if my question seems silly.

Simon

Not a silly question at all.. Did you go to the doctor for anything that prompted this appointment? Much more likely you have just come up on the calendar - if you look carefully at the letter you got after the last echo you may well find it says something like "monitor after X amount of time". Also your past steroid use makes it more likely you will be monitored (I only know this because of working with some young men who took rather a lot at age 18 .... I am not medical... ) If you really want to put your mind at rest quickly, ring your GP and ask why it has been offered. You should actually be pleased you are being kept under surveillance - hard not to worry when at the back of your mind you dwell on what was said 2 years ago. Just get it done and you can stop worrying for another couple of years.

I have requested a call back from my doctor, thanks very much! 🙂

I would say it’s just procedure Simon, I happily get an echo when I can, unless you got major symptoms I wouldn’t worry about why your going , be happy your going, I’m sure it’s just procedure tho

Welcome Simon

My first reaction to your query is

Don't panic!

Stress is a real unseen and often unnoticed enemy!

Second ask the person organising the echo as to why this is being done

Could be routine

You appear to be in good hands and relax as you are in a care loop (both medically and here!)

Concentrate on keeping stress free and hert fit

Thanks for the info and kind words everyone. When I think back I vaguely remember being told I may be seen again/ or would need an echo again. But because I was told I was relatively fine I think I forgot that bit! 🙄 (I’m a lot more thorough and health conscious these days) I’m waiting to hear from my doctor to see if I can be told abit more info. Think I was just hit with some anxiety/paranoia and assumed something must be wrong.
