I have been on propranolol for a year now. I was put on it for anxiety and fast heart rate. I was put on it because my mum had died suddenly and then my dad had a heart attack and needed a triple heart bypass. It was a scary time. I was on 120mg a day but I have cut it down to 80mg now a day. One thing I have noticed is that I get some palpitations/thuds from time to time they arnt constant and I do t get any other symptoms. The docs have said everything is normal etc. And I am a healthy 28yr old. I have lost loads of weight also. My health anxiety on the other hand is going nuts. Would appreciate some feedback if anybody has taken a beta blocker etc.

Hey, not on this med but I went through similar to you by sounds of it and as a result suffer with ptsd GAD health anxiety panic disorder and depression, I also get palpitations and thuds every now and then, some say its linked to the anxiety.
Do you have any other feelings when the palpitations come on?
Hi no I don't know I could be just sitting down or lying in bed after I have woken up. I don't get them all the time either. It's just strange as I never had any since starting on this med then reducing it to upping it again.
Hi there, if you’ve not had your thyroid tested you might want to ask your doctor about it, rapid weight loss and heart palpitations can be symptoms of an overactive thyroid, as can feeling very anxious. It’s just a thought, I’m not medically trained at all but I do have thyroid issues, although mine is under active, I’ve spent a lot of time reading posts on Thyroid UK and I’ve read about lots of people with overactive thyroids with similar symptoms to yours. Good luck, whatever is causing your symptoms, I hope it gets resolved quickly for you x
Hi thanks for the reply. I had a full blood work done last year and everything was normal. My GP won't do it again as they said it was fine a year ago. I'm kind of stuck.
I was on propranolol for many years and it kept my hb low at 58 bpm. My ectopic beats were very prominent but when I stopped the BB my hb went to 75 and I no longer felt them in the chest but only on my wrist.
The faster hb made the ectopics unnoticeable.
The propranolol had no effect on my anxiety at all. I was given Xanor and Prozac (UK - Lorazepam and Sertraline) that worked very well. No more anxiety, tremors and social phobia.
Not sure this helps you but I was on propranolol 80mg for years but had to come off it as all of a sudden my HR dropped (to as low as 38 & I felt spaced out all the time). Trouble is all meds could have some side effects & I think it's always best to talk to the Drs . & you can always ask for tests. good luck
Hi blake19 just want to say you have had a very sad stressful time at a young age and it takes a toll on your health. I know its hard to believe sometimes but that kind of stress can cause palpitations, drastic weight loss and sometimes even pain without there being anything medically wrong with you. I wish you all the best for the future take care xxx
Hi thank you for your reply. Yeah things have been tough. Even more so since my mum passed away. My anxiety has been something else. Scared on a daily basis that the same thing is going to happen to me. The docs have said I'm okay. But I worry the propranolol will make my heart bad and cause problems. Anxiety is horrible.
